Gotta buy some new batteries. 3 of them I suspect, 110AH.
Any recommendations for type, supplier, best value?

Adverc (who seem to know what they're at) seem to intimate that good quality HD truck batteries are probably as good as any for 'normal' yacht use, balancing performance with cost.

Again, thanks in advance folks.

I am sure that there could be much discussion on the merits of all types of battery, however, we have used AC Delco Voyager 105ah batteries (1 for engine starting (Perkins 4.108), 2 in parallel for domestics) in our previous boat for the last 15 years and they have given, what I consider to be, good value and service. Costing about £100.00 each, the engine battery was replaced once in that time and the others twice.

I am unable to comment on the technical applications/merits of the batteries other than, from experience, they were certainly adequate for our requirements.

Listen to Adverc, they know what they are talking about and four years on from taking there advice we have an original system still working fine, and that's as liveaboards.

I bought 2 110AH leisure batteries from a caravan shop 2 years ago and have never managed to run them down. I start my Yanmar 2GM20 at the press of the starter button ever time. Cost between £50 and £60 each. I would not waste money on any more expensive batteries but if your engine is very big I would buy a car-type battery just for engine starting. Battery has tacky label on the side that says "Easy Leisure Range", but they work!

I used Adverc's suggestion of Exide 110M (110 AH) from a local ATS depot, paid about £60 each about 2 years ago. Never failed me yet but I do have the Adverc charging system

Go with Adverc

I did (or rather they went along with me). I fitted a tail-lift truck battery for domestics as they now suggest, a couple of years ago. After a heavy night with the diesel heater on etc. I start up in the morning on the domestic batt. and leave it on for re-charge.

I went for a 130Ah (657 type I think) which is the same footprint as the 110 Ah, but taller.

These have tremendous capacity for both heavy and deep discharge. Howeever, a=they are wet cells so do need the lid lifting off from time to time.

Re: Go with Adverc

Agreed - they just quoted me £126 for a 170 ah HD battery - Boatshow prices are held until February.
I've talked to the people on their stand for a few years now at LBS and am always impressed by their no nonsense approach and knowledge
