Bass fishing curtailed

Beware. If you see a bass which is bang on the size limit, (probably under the new limit) and £5 each over here, that's farmed, in Greece I expect. Found to be prone to e coli in the gut, but these days they are importing the fillets only to reduce airfreight cost. Wild bass are usually £10- £18 a kilo at first sale, depending on size. Masterchef is a lot to blame, along with the habit of only wanting white crab meat. I did see the brown being used for the first time this series.

No wonder you think so! Jumbleduck and I have expressed agreement twice this week, I think, on totally diverse subjects.

I'm not sure if I'm his sockpuppet, or he's mine, but these forums are so contentious that two people agreeing twice is so rare and unlikely as to be absolutely conclusive evidence of conspiracy.

Hang on, with three people agreeing it's becoming a political movement!

In any event it's only the Brits that enforce EU rules, something to do with us playing cricket.[/QUOTE]

The British weather being more suitable for fishing whilst thinking about cricket ?

What annoys me so much, is that I have tried so hard over the years to catch a bass and have never managed to do so and now I am being banned. I just don't understand how amateurs can possibly catch so many when I can't see to can't any.

We were camping on the Helford just by Frenchman's, lots of birds working the flood tide so found a nondescript lure and a spanner for a weight: we'll never catch any, not with the outboard right on top of them in only a few feet of water....ten minutes and sixteen bass later, mostly undersized, we kept one decent one for the fire.
In 1979 I made a sparse living from catching them from a boat on Bass point, The Lizard, trolling homemade lures from 18ft outrigger bamboos. I had to work all through the spring ebb tide, they would come on the feed two or three times, several minutes of frenzied activity, then another hour of waiting. Average was about 4 lbs.
