Hit one off Salcombe in 1991. It was very early, about 6 o'clockish, and totally calm and sunny. I had motored out of Salcombe and was heading for Falmouth. I noticed them and stuck my head down the hatch to wake my daughters to come and see them. I had a boat with with a centre plate and next thing I knew there was a judder and I heard the plate swing back as the result of an impact. No damage(I thought) was done to us. A couple of years later when the boat was in slings and I lowered the plate to clean it, I found a dent in the front edge of the plate.
