Can any one help me find either the specifications of the water speed meter for these instruments or someone with the know how to repair it? OR a second hand meter that works? We have the complete set of instruments on board and are reluctant to have to renew all just for the sake of this one meter. They were made in Cowes IOW and used to be repaired by Tony Stevens and a Mrs Floyd, again at Cowes. No one else can repair the meter without it's technical specifications. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP?

RE: Baron Instruments Ltd
Baron and Squire range of Yacht instruments

I may be able to assist you Kate if this is still an issue after such a long time.
I was one of the two original design/production/service engineers who worked on both of the Baron (console) and Squire (modular) range of yacht instruments in the 70's
Message me here if the issue is still live for fixing please and I will see what I can do?

Welcome to the forum Rob. :)

You managed to find a post from 18 years ago by a poster who only ever made that one post. That is seriously impressive but I doubt that Kate will see your post unless you also PM/Conversation with her. Even then, it's a very remote possibility as she has never checked back to see if there were any responses to her original post. :(

I didn't know that merely looking at the listings left a trace? How do you detect that?

Mike.
Click on her signature picture, the circle with a K, and it opens a box with some basics. If you click on the new K that appears, it opens up another page with a lot me detail. Hopefully that makes sense. It's something that I have just found out!

Thanks for your kind comments Sarabande. I am happy to provide information on how I would go about servicing this equipment but I do not have any spare parts and indeed they are scarce. Some on Ebay if wanted. Squire Depth and a wind instrument. For clarification these are not my items and I have no connection with the sellers.

Regards
Rob

Nice to read there are still users of these beautiful instruments. I still using the windset of the range as the rest was unfortunately burned including the quartertonner in 1988 winterstock. Since the set is using classic analogue signal I was able to make some electronics talking NMEA to the Raymarine tlller pilot.
My trouble is the instruments are not fully vacuum gas filled anymore which leads to condensation of moist inside. This I overcame with an an active osmose plug.IMG_9971.jpegIMG_9972.jpeg

Hi Rob, nice to read you are from the original crew. Searching the web does not offer anything on Baron Squire, what it was, company, history, electronics, reverse engineering or that it even came from beautiful Cowes. I’m still a persistent user as it suits with my ‘74 Quartertonner. Though it takes engineering to keep the instruments and windset in shape. Do you possess of any design details? Parts lists, electronic wiring and or pcb layouts? Hope to hear, Arnoud
