I'm going to the London Boat Show in January, and was wondering what bargains there might be...

We're planning on upgrading our Webasto heater and toilet system and thought we might get a good price there - does anyone have any experience/tips?

cheers

You can save £10 on any purchase, don't buy a ticket.

The London Boat Show is much easier for me to get to, but I'm not going again until they increase the number of small stands and reduce the number of boats.

I think bargains in the old sense, ie bits of rope etc, will be in short supply. Having said that for something like heating you have the opportunity to talk to Webasto, Ebers, Wallas, Mikuni all on the same day and can probably squeeze a good price out of one of them based on quotes from the others. In that case it is well worth a visit, assuming they are all going to be there of course.

How do you upgrade a Webasto? It is already the best heater on the market.

You may well be the only person on this forum who wants a boat show to have LESS boats.

No, I want them to have fewer boats.

I've got a boat, why would I want to look at more of them? On the other hand, I do want to buy some kit.

I'll second that. As for "lottery daydreaming" I prefer to focus on the many, many ways there are to vastly overcapitalise an old westerly.

Edit: As for the OP's question...research online before you go. Obvious stuff: Know what you want and where is cheapest to get it from. You should be able to haggle at least the online price minus P&P

I've worked out a sure fire way of saving money at the boat show .

I'm not going to bother going.

It was rubbish last year..

How can you have less boats?

Thinner GRP, fewer gadgets, lower LOA, fewer berths...there are many ways to have less boat but I would imagine fewer was the intention and we're all just being mean about grammar again :D

I'm getting bored of the people slagging off the LBS. If you don't like it, don't go. Easy.

Anyway, catlotion, there's usually some haggling to be done. Have a good dig around the internet first, and know what you want and what the cost of it is, then at the show go from there. Of course, there's fringe benefit of being able to get advice to, which is something the internet is not always great at.

I'll be there, bargain hunting for bits for my boat. Also boat shopping to. I've got the exciting job of choosing a new sailing boat for a mobo owner who wants to move to classy propulsion.

None unless you are an exhibitor but they do discount on the last day. Then they usually will negotiate so they don't have to take the stock back to their shop/warehouse. That's my experience anyway.
