In this kind of scenario a contingent fee basis would seem attractive i.e. if the solicitor is so confident of a good outcome then let him share some of the risk and only draw his hefty fee if he wins your case. Alongside that you could pay a nominal fee to cover his basic costs but nothing like selling your house for. If I was in such an unfortunate position I might be tempted to search for a good solictor willing to work on a 'no win no fee' basis. Likelihood of finding one might be heightened if he could act for several punters as a class action, making his potential upside attractive enough to take the risk?
