Information requested on winter berth. Facilities, temperature and cost. Boat is about 10metres and we need to be fairly near city transport.

There are three possibilities in Barcelona itself:

1. Port Olimpic--This is a typical new marina, a concrete basin surrounded by modern buildings and discos that go boom late into the night. While not right in the center of town, bus and metro connections are OK. Advantage is that if you want to go out for a day sail it's a hop, skip and a jump. Not so with the other places which require a forty-five minute slog through the port to get out to the open sea. Normal marina facilities.

2. Marina Port Vell--A publicly-owned marina practically right in the center of town. Beautiful setting, not overly noisy. Sizeable community of yachties--many Brits. Catwalks (only in this port) Normal marina facilities.

3. Reial Club Maritim--A yacht club with some room for transients. Right at the foot of the Ramblas, you can't get any more central than this. Quite a bit of noise from discos, etc. from the mall just in front. Also annoying swell from fishing boats at odd hours. Facilities include clubhouse, restaurant, swimming pool, sauna, gym, boatyard. Very tight security. Few non-Spanish boats.

The price is similar (when I last checked) in all three places i.e. for a 10 metre around 30,000 pesetas a month. Discounts are available at Port Vell for long stays. At Port Olimpic it may be possible to find a private sublet for much less, but you'd have to be here to negotiate it.

Weather is great. Never goes below 5 degrees C and that's rare. Lots of sunny days in winter and little rain in a normal year. It's a wonderful place to winter. The nightlife, shopping, restaurants, bars, etc, are tops and the people are (relatively) friendly. The vices are very cheap compared to Britain. NOT a place to have major work done on your boat.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Forget the Marina IN Barcelona & try Puerto de Mataro, which is about 12km North of Barc. Excellent train service straight into the centre of Barc.
Just do a search for the Puerto de Mataro and send them an email.
They replied to me within 2 days.
Good luck !

They also have full marina servicing and 100% saafe security in this Marina which was built for the 1992 Olympics. Quite a few of the Olympic Sailing Committee had their 'superyachts' berthed there. Well worth contacting them for info.
