Hi, I have managed to stain my teak chart table with white spirit (inadvertantly put a cloth sodden with the stuff on it & left it there for a week!). Any recommendations on what to do (i.e. restoring teak) is welcome as I'm not keen on buying lots of tins & pots of the wrong stuff & am mot sure if I should sand & varnish, sand & use oil, not sand but use linseed oil & wax, etc etc. Thanks!

How was it finished to begin with?

Generally. white spirit will quietly evaporate over time; I fancy all you have to do is wait!

As Mirelle asked, what surface should it have? What ever you do, do not start sanding it - once you've taken the wood away you cannot put it back. If it is varnished I'd suggest that using varnish remover on the whole panel and re-varnishing would give best results. I've done this to our saloon table and it now makes the rest of the boat look tired (/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif). If it is only oiled then time will probably cure it, though again I have found that paintstipper helps clean old dirt and oil out of the wood before re-oiling (mind you this was to floor boards rather than a chart table).

Just my tupennyworth,
Jeff.
