Wednesday night walking home at around midnight i was nearly knocked down by a portuguese car doing excessive speeds through he village. After venting my anger at him verbally he span the car round and came back to see me. Not to apologise but to threaten me with my life and brandished a sheaf knife out of his car window before starting to climb out to attack me. He was German but probably local as he was in an old beat up portuguese car. I legged it back to the village centre where there were plenty of people. He stood in the road shouting insults at me.
Saturday got to the boat and could smell batteries cooking as i entered. Disconnected power and didn't turn anything on. I found one of the domestic batteries had been cooking nicely for a while. I'd only checked the electrolyte levels a week before and the levels were still ok but it was merrily boiling away. I decided to order 2 new ones and am waiting for delivery tomorrow.
Today Sunday decided to go out in a newly acquired RIB - old but very serviceable. I'd just refurbished the towing hitch and electrics on the trailer. launched the boat and parked the car with trailer attached. Unfortunately left the lighting board attachment off to one side and forgot it. Now picture this - lighting board with english number plate on the floor (out of the way and not impeding launching of other boats). English car with surprise surprise the same registration on it nearby, 15 metres away. I remembered i'd left the lighting board out, about 20 mins after leaving the dock and returned to put it away.
Got back and lighting board has disappeared. Same people around the launching slip as when I left but no one knew anything about it. Maybe it was me imagining it but there where several sheepish looks being exchanged but no-one admitted seeing anything.
Portuguese, Spanish and some Dutch there.
My silly mistake leaving it behind but the dishonesty amongst fellow boaters is begining to P*** me off.
So hopefully i get up tomorrow morning and the world is a better place.

It usually is fine, that's why i live here but it's that time of year again, the silly season when holiday makers arrive and leave their brain behind (and sense of what's right and wrong). You're probably right GHA, it won't be a local that's taken the lighting board.
The German with the knife, I'm sure he was "local" but I'd never seen him before. Then again I've had worse things in Liverpool and Manchester years ago. If I meet him again and recognise him he might get a surprise.
Update on the batteries, new ones picked up today and fitted - all ok.
Please don't ask what type etc etc. Don't want to start another battery thread. Or do we?
