Hi All,

Just a warning to anybody considering using or buying from black dog marine in cornwall,
i recently brought a secondhand low hours 175 optimax off them through another merc dealer local to me.

Purchased supposedly with two good props, two smartcraft gauges and full rigging kit.
When it arrived it had one good prop, the other was junk. The rigging kit was missing the ignition loom and other bits according to my local dealer, who i know and trust by the way, totaling approx £400.

After weeks and weeks of chasing and getting fobbed off by members of his staff saying he is out on jobs and he'll get back to you etc. He never did, when he did get hold of him by calling him off another number he just blamed the old owner of the engine, saying he still has the parts.

To cut a long story short the previous owner didn't have the bits, the dealer did. probably sold them or used them on another boat refused to do anything about it and is ignoring our calls.

Shame to have to go down this route but whats happened is basically iv'e been ripped Off

They cannot be trusted

You have been warned!

The local dealer is rigging the engine to my boat, to be fair as he was the middleman he has sourced whats required.
I'm just warning others out there that these dealers will happily rip you off.

I'm going to look into a claim also.

Dear All,

Im sorry but this thread is far from the truth and ollie im sorry you have been very much misinformed by your trusted local dealer.

My name is Rob Barnard, i am the owner of Black Dog Marine. This is the account of what actually happened.
Now im not going to mention names as you can get into trouble doing that so i shall refer to your dealer as Dwayne Rabbits Marine and the previous owner of your engine as Mr L.
So we had M L's optimax in storage with us for about 12 months as he was trying to sell it. One day Mr L calls me and says he thinks he has sold it, but if i get a call from Dwayne Rabbits Marine could i just let them know what the engines is like. Not a problem, sure enough Dwayne Rabbits calls and i have a chat and also send them so photos.

A week or two go by and Mr L calls again to tell me he has now sold the engine to Dwayne Rabbits and could i do him a massive favour and put the engine on a pallet for him and he would arrange collection. This we did free of charge. The engine was collected by the TNT that was all we did end of our story.

So to sum up, Dwayne Rabbits Marine, didnt by an engine from us, no money was exchanged between Black Dog and Dwayne Rabbits, the engine was purchased from Mr L we simply put the engine on a pallet.
I dont know what deal was made with regards to propellers or any parts that was between your trusted local dealer and Mr L.
I believe that since this all started Mr L has offered to pay towards the missing parts but you will need to speak to your local dealer on that and yes it turns out Mr L does have the original loom as it is still fitted to his boat.

So could you please refrain from posting your bad service thread on every forum you can find. If you want to call me my number is 01503265898 or e mail rob@blackdogmarine.com
I hope this clears matters up for you.

Blackdoglooe ,
Sorry to hear this take of woe .
I think we all learn to filter especially so when it all one sided .
Presume you have the pre purchase “ photos “ ? - that DR marine asked for to show exactly what was on offer from Mr L ?

Did you send those to Ollie.thfc —— sort of early on in his enquiring of the alleged missing parts .

Or better still a pic of the goods on the pallet before collecting.

Or an inventory of what exactly Mr L has left for storage ?
Just thinking to Cover Your Arse from vexatious claims that’s stuff gone missing —- some time down the line .
I would if I was in a storage ( other than punter has key to lockable cell ) business.

Interesting though that it took a mention on this forum to get Blackdog to communicate.
Shows the importance of returning calls even when you're busy.

I'm having a frustrating time at the moment trying to get my maintenance person in Spain to communicate. Not sure if he's busy or dead.

If it's so cut and dry why didn't/don't you take it to The Small Claims Court?

Surely that would be the first step rather than bringing it on here?

We just need the original owner of said engine to comment to decide who has thrown who under the bus
Sounds like a three way argument that ollie.thfc is suffering from .

Hi guys,

Good to get both sides of the story. As you can imagine we had no comms with the new owner so I couldn't get in touch with him personally. I did however e mail his dealer asking if they could pass on my details so we could talk. Also on the other foot Ollie could have very easily look up our number on Google and called us or looked on Mercury website and found us, we are very easy to find! However we didn't sell the engine or supply the engine so it was very much out of our control. We simply put the engine on a pallet. The deal was done between Mr L and another dealer.

However I did talk with Ollies dealer at least 2 to 3 times a day as he continued to ask were the missing part was, my answer every time was he needs to talk to the person he bought it off to find out. The phone calls got so persistent I didn't feel I needed to keep giving him the same answer 3 times a day. As per previous thread it turned out all along the previous owner did have the missing loom still on his boat.
And as per previous thread I believe the old owner was going to arrange payment for a replacement loom, but again that was done between Mr L and Dwayne Rabbits Marine as it was nothing to do with us.

Yes agreed it shows forums have their place, but also having not been able to talk with ollie and being told that the previous owner was sorting out the costs of the missing parts this is the first I new that the situation was not resolved.
Like I said we only put the engine on a pallet we had nothing to do with the sale or what deal was done between the two parties.
This is why I find this thread unfair that we are getting the bad rep for giving bad service and ripping people off.

A lesson(s) learnt?

Never do anything for nothing and never package anything for posting(that ain't yours)?

You've got it in one! It's such a shame that we did all this for free as a favour for a customer to help out, spent far to long on the phone and then get slated for it.
I don't think the packaging was in question I think the problem seems to be what ever deal was done between Mr L and the dealer didn't quite happen. The dealer must have told ollie the engine had everything in it and obviously It had a loom missing, Mr L I'm guessing wouldn't know what looms where needed he's just a boat owner.

If your account is correct(I can't say it is or isn't, obviously) I'd be fuming and demanding the removal of this thread or the accusation at the very least.

If I was the OP(and if his account is accurate)I'd have demanded satisfaction, through the courts if necessary.

It's a shame when things like this are aired in public without proof.
