I seem to have taken to hoisting the main and forgetting to undo the sheet first.
I then seem to forget that the main is up when coming onto the occasional pontoon.
Any ideas for a cure?

Taking the cure might very well help.

I could dispose of the cocktail cabinet contents for you and put you ashore on Eileach an Naoimh for a couple of weeks' retreat in a beehive cell.

Know what you're talking about, been there myself. The solution for me was to stop sailing solo and to make my crew responsible for the main, warps and fenders. Plus explaining which port we were approaching and a few other things.

The nastiest habit of all is stepping on the anchor up button whilst I'm faffing about getting kelp off - think I found the true reason for having a pulpit!

I was trimming the genoa a few weeks back but puzzled by the lack of effectiveness of my efforts. My crew kindly pointed out that I was trimming the weather sheet which had been left on the winch. Probably time I took up golf.

Went into Yarmouth one year on a passage to Studland, can't remember what for now, we were enjoying the sailing so much we found ourselves in the harbour amoungst the moored up boats still under main a genny!
