The backstay turnbuckle ( or tensioner, whatever) has jammed. Before I take it off and apart I would like to know what is available, not necessarily the same model.

Its a 15 inch or so long metal cylinder with two handles to turn it with, a bit like WW2 submarine films.

I do not need the ultimate since I do not race - any ideas and names/models to replace. My boat is a Sadler 29.

Thanks

It sounds as if it could be the same as mine and I have had the same problem. Mine was made by IYC (Intnl Yacht Co.....I think). They quoted more than a hundred £s to service it. I stripped it down (a bit of heat required to break the loctite seals) and replaced the roller (ball) bearing. Got the new bearing from Solent Bearings Tel 02380667015 Part No. 51201. Got 2 (1 for another day) with VAT, P&P £24.57 in 2003. I subsequently found out there is a stainless steel variety. Worth inquiring about. Cleaned everything up, reassembled and is still working fine. Hope this gives you a lead.

Good sailing
