Back to the UK for a winter refit

Seriously I need some pics, of suitable collect and drop off pionts so later in the summer I can pick up guests via boat for day trips who will be kipping in Antibes .Previously tied up under the bow of Wilbur or fuel pontoon if empty .
Any thoughts guys ??

Yup, as J says, the long quais between mole sud and capitainerie quai, and mole sud and quai 1, are widely used for this. It's Ok to tie up there for 20 mins, but not leave boat unattended. If you are photographing and trying to use the same place each time, go for the bit between mole sud and quai 1 (currently, between bows of S'seeker sportyacht 80 and Galeon 66) because the other one is used for visiting cruise ship tenders in summer, sometimes. There's an obstruction being the big semicircular steel thing to protect the water circ pump but it is well fendered and you'll have enough space

Other choices are under Dilbar (not Wilbur!) bow, but you could easily get told no, or fuel quai (v busy in summer), or an empty berth on mole sud but the location will be pot luck of course. There are spaces around to the W side of the port but too far for your apartment guests to walk I think

Sunbrella specifically? I was intending to make a cover out of the same Silvertex fabric that I've used for the seat fabric.

Yes as others have said it must be breathable so sunbrella/acrylic cover material is good but silvertex wouldn't be imho

Have you had much of a chance to try your upholstery yet? The reason I ask is because I've ordered new upholstery in silvertex titanium and carbon. Chatting to the upholsterers last week, they reckon it may be impractical in the med, too hot to sit on in summer, how do you find yours?

I think it depends on whether or not your upholstery is in the direct sun or not. Mine isn't, I keep my bimini up virtually all of the time, so it doesn't really apply. However, my coachroof sunpad (which is in similar colours but in sunbrella rather than silvertex) gets noticeably hotter underfoot than the previous white/navy stripe colour scheme. I think the silvertex, even in a mid-range colour like titanium, would get too hot to sit on in direct sunlight.

One way to test this would be to get a decent sized sample and just take it to your boat and see how hot it gets in your installed location. What's your specific application?

Thanks for replying, my plan was to do all of the cockpit upholstery, bow cushions and the rear sunbathing cushions. I also keep the Bimini up but the rear of the cockpit is exposed to the sun in the afternoons whilst on the berth, so I may need to have a rethink. The upholsterer doesn't stock any of the greys, I'll see if they can order a sample for test purposes. Failing that, I'll have to go with something lighter.

The rib is part grey, part white and the difference when standing on the tubes is very noticeable. I was hoping that the texture of Silvertex being less vinyl like, than the upholstery I have now, would mean the difference would be less noticeable.

If anyone can suggest a colour scheme for the upholstery, I'm all ears. The rear quarters on the boat were in poor condition after years in the med sun, so inspired by JTB and Andreas, I've had the blue band on the hull wrapped in grey, my covers were needing to be replaced anyway, so new ones are on order in a slate grey, the upholstery is in pretty good condition overall but now seems like a good time to change it, to give the boat a more up to date look.

This winter we reupholstered everything on an open SS Portofino kept in SoF using Macadamia (light beige) Silvertex - cockpit, fore and aft sunpads. The cockpit is protected by a blue bimini cover and while it does get slightly warmer that the previous white vinyl, its OK to sit on unless in direct sunlight. The sunpads are quite a lot warmer than before but still not too hot to lie on - we always use beach towels anyway, so no change for us.

I know someone who used white/cream Silvertex who has had very similar experience, so maybe the material itself also makes a difference to heat absorption/retention.

I really like that Macadamia colour, if the grey scheme hadn't looked right, that would have been my next choice.

Thanks both, Macadamia seems likely to be the best solution for me, making the sunpads too hot to lie on without a towel properly covering them is no bad thing as far as I'm concerned!
