Back to the UK for a winter refit

Really nice table, Jimmy. Does the teak oil protect it a bit from food and drink spills or is it just a visual thing?

Protection first, visual second. I followed jfm's advice from a previous thread when selecting the protection product (in fact that's his bottle of teak oil in the picture, this was Saturday afternoon and the chandler was shut, so he kindly lent me his so that I could get going). And it works - on Sunday I was anchored between the islands and managed to spill my drink on the table - pleasingly, no harm done. I think it'll need a few coats though (it's had four so far) and it will also need regular maintenance - but it is a very easy 10-15 minute job, so no biggy I don't think.

Thanks. I'm not at that point yet - I've still got two or three issues to iron out incl the stbd power problem; once I've got past those I'll feel a bit more relaxed about the whole thing.
 
The table looks fantastic (I've seen it in the flesh). Wattsons are top of this game in my book and I don't go anywhere else for custom teak work. It looks spectacularly good with the grey and the other tweaks Jimmy

You should order a sunbrella cover for the table imho. Protects from sun and also from scuffing when you're doing other jobs and the table naturally becomes a bench (I use mine as benches so much I've considered fitting a vice :D)

What flights you on at wkend?

Sunbrella specifically? I was intending to make a cover out of the same Silvertex fabric that I've used for the seat fabric.

Ref the weekend - out on the 1325 Friday, back 2100 Monday. H coming out late Friday, back late Sunday. See you at the weekend? I need to test the new anchor in Villefranche...

very nice J, well done!

I have teakoiled my 40mm thick glulam oak kitchen worktop at home 10yrs ago. Has survived very well with occasional topups (whenever I remember every 2-3yrs). But that's inside, so no serious UV.
Do you apply with a cotton cloth (old t-shirt) or you use a brush?

We are out tomorrow -depart Mon late ( Son to be dropped off Sun Pm at Airport ) .
Will be out and about on the boat - and calling in ( car ) Antibes to drop some stuff off at the appartment Sun Pm after dropping Son off .
I have my sneaky I phone .:)
Seriously I need some pics, of suitable collect and drop off pionts so later in the summer I can pick up guests via boat for day trips who will be kipping in Antibes .Previously tied up under the bow of Wilbur or fuel pontoon if empty .
Any thoughts guys ??

Cotton cloth. This is pure oil, rather than Danish oil (which I use on wooden worktops at home) so will need a lot of topping up I think.

They are stand-offs, so that the two leaves of the table don't actually touch when the table is closed. Stops any damp from capilliarying around the place and spoiling the table. They are less obtrusive than perhaps they look - 9mm dia and only about 1mm high.

Well, if you're passing, come and have a beer. I'm also doing the airport run on Sunday evening.

For guest pickup/dropoff the superyacht tenders use the walls next to the road at the end of the fairways between the principal quais ie captainerie/mole sud/q1/q2. I don't think you could leave the boat there for long though.

Use something breathable. I made covers for mine in PVC, and condensation formed inside and I now have mildew stains in the teak that are proving difficult to remove. In your case the table is completely covered by the boats canopy when you leave it anyway, so it's mostly workbench protection you need.

we have a thick molton underlay cover for both saloon and cockpit table,
the molton protects against damage when placing bigger items on the table (when at work fe)
it has a eleastic thread in the border so that it fits tight underneath the table and doesn't get blown away
on top we have had different table cloth's or covers,
both tables were varnished, and they still look like the day we bought them 4y ago.
but agree that oiling is also nice and good
