Can't imagine they will be happy you walking in with your own parts, why don't you just ask for a discount on the whole deal? Then every one is happy.

Could it be that the screeching heard is from the belts rather than the tensioners?
Or maybe it is down to the dowsing of the tensioners in saltwater spray from filters

Ref the belt tensioners, there are two per engine, plus three idler pulleys per engine. These pulleys do wear and get screechy, but VP won't sell you just the wearing part, they will only sell you a complete tensioner assembly.

Jimmy, my post was somewhat tongue in cheek, as you probably picked up. These prices are so out of it I am almost tempted to get my spanners out and give it a go!

It would have to be a hell of a discount to make those engine mount prices even remotely sensible, as an example. PS you know those little torx head bolts that hold the engine cover on on the D6? The bolt is 40p. Fair enough. The washer though is £2.40 plus vat. It isn't even stainless steel! #justsayin...
 
Oooooer, I think the RAT is probably more than the BAT :D

Min £120 per hour. They will also want to test them on a bed, £9k to build the jig, £5k to install, then a couple of days testing, then uninstall. Let's say £20k just to test? It will be a gat job though :)

Jtb, could perhaps a hydraulics company make up copies of the steering hoses if you took them one of each? Might be significantly cheaper as these guys are geared up to do this often even at site.

Yes, that's my thinking too, but I don't have any knowledge or experience in this area. I'll try and find a photo of the relevant hoses.

same for me two years ago,
but since then, unscrewed hoses from:
-passerel
-crane
-scuba dive compressor (needed longer 200 bar hoses)
and went to a specialised company here locally in Belgium (they service oa concrete pump truck's)
and had new high quality hoses for a fraction of "marine" prices,
together with loads of practical advice

Thanks for this - this is very encouraging. Maybe I'll remove a couple of the hoses from the boat (very easy with the engines out!) and take them to pirtek on Monday and see what the comparable price is.
 
Jimmy, stated in a "me too" tone of voice (!), I organised the financing on the MBO of Pirtek, perhaps 15 years ago, I can't remember, and they were a very good company even back then. I think now they are top dog in this sector, with zillions of branches all over the place making swaged hydraulic hoses. I think you can have a lot of confidence in them, and as Bart says get basically the same product without the "marine" premium
