Baby on Board - Croatia Charter

Hi All
My Son , his wife and 7 month old grandson are joining us for a 1 week charter out of Seget near Split. He is already slide crawling on the carpet and into everything he can.
Has anyone done something similar ?
Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Should have said we already have a life jacket for him and plan to get some guard rail netting to tie round the place

I wouldn't worry too much about the guard rail netting at that age. But I would definitely get hold of a car seat and find a way of lashing it in place in the cockpit. For sleeping, you'll want to rig up some sort of lee cloth- we initially just slid a spare bit of ply down the side of the berth cushion, later upgraded to netting semi permanently installed. On a large enough boat a travel cot might work.
Oh and don't forget the big rubber bucket for washing him in!

If he's not too mobile then a small inflatable dinghy or such like might be useful not only for washing but somewhere he can sit in in the cockpit . Might be easier to transport than a car seat and clearly with some research might be other inflatable shapes which can be secured and provide a form of playpen on board. We used this approach in a marble floored villa but see no reason why it cannot work equally well on board . Clearly view is based on my views of space in cockpit or saloon on your charter vessel but might help to create a padded zone for him. You don't say if you have A/C on board but might be worth consideration given Local climate?

When we've hosted the grandkids as smalls, we found that some means of blocking the access to the bathing platform was useful. We used a partially deflated spherical fender jammed into the gap worked well. But more modern boats with large open transoms that may not be practicable.
Bottom part of the washboard to stop sudden descent into the cabin is also worthwhile. One of those cheap inflatable from the tourist shop will also make a cool pool in the cockpit. And car seats lashed into the corner of the cockpit are a useful means of restraint.

And watch out for the sun, of course. It's MUCH stronger in the UK, and in a breeze you may not feel its warmth but be sure it's rays are zapping you!
