I bought a 2200kw Machinemart genny, used for £50. Perfect, that’s the minimum power to run a grinder/polisher/heater/etc. It’s not lightweight; two handed lug. Reasonable quiet, has economy mode. Use E5 fuel to guarantee starting, and change the plug.
Wow, 2.2MW must be a substantial bit of kit! ;-)

I cobbled together two of these.
MkII version has an inline terminal fuse in case of short circuit.

It's been borrowed by various people for all sorts of small jobs where an extension cable won't reach and a generator is a bit too much.

Just look on FB market place... 10 came up within 40 miles this was one of the more expensive ones. Use and then sell again or keep. Costs about the same as a tank of diesel.

I think you will probably find that Honda is a scam, it's worth about £500+. If you look at the wording it is often the same in multiple adverts, I suspect that people's identities get robbed to work it, they are after credit card details.

I have got a cheap Chinese 850watt generator for 50 quid and will see how it goes, so far it runs my 450 watt sander so that's a start. Will see how it stands up longer term.

Interestingly though they don’t scam the buyer, they’ll already have the dodgy card details from elsewhere. Usually in this type of scam the buyer gets a brand new unit ordered from a genuine supplier using the dodgy details. Supplier doesn’t care as they’re paid, buyer doesn’t care they get what they paid for. Card owner doesn’t care as insurance covers it. Bank doesn’t care as insurance covers it. Police don’t care as they are funded with speeding fines. Insurance don’t care…no idea why, they could do something if they wanted to.

Anyone had any luck with inverters and power tools? Something like this seems attractive:

1500W Car Power Inverter DC 12V to AC 220V Converter Modified Pure Sine Wave UK | eBay

However some people have reported them unreliable and there is a lot of nonsense in some of the ads. Do they ever work for what I have in hand?
How long do you think a battery would last at this rate? An average car battery contains less than three quarters of a kWhr and that assumes you run it completely flat.

Just an update as promised. My £50 secondhand Chinese generator worked well with the orbital sander:

After Christmas I will be hull polishing and then possibly doing some heavy work on the pulling dinghy. Not too bad on fuel and no probs so far 🤞

The Kipor Honda clones used to have a good reputation, but apart from being quieter no great advantage over your £50 genny.
