Advice that applies all year round, some might say. But particularly from now UFN, lifts will be nigh on impossible to get and you might as well sail round the outside instead. I guess we'll be seeing some Ridham Dock commercial traffic coming through the East Swale while this is going on, that should clear away some of the shallow patches! :)

It's a bit strange that last night Sheppey's local radio station, BRFM posted on their Facebook page "All trains to and from Sheerness have been cancelled, due to tidal conditions. Buses replace trains this evening until further notice. Check with Southeastern Trains before you travel." With tides currently only around 5m at Sheerness, I suspect the bridge got stuck and misleading information was put out. Thanks Dick and ECP for the update.

It will certainly be interesting if the commercial traffic does start going the other way, maybe it will get dredged. Then again it would be of no use to us until the bridge is operational again.

From the local news the problem with the bridge is that the main lift motor has failed. The backup system takes a hour to raise and lower the bridge. Until the motor is repaired they are only raising the bridge for commercial traffic and then they want 3 hours notice so they can organise a replacement bus service for the trains.
Hopefully it should be fixed by the end of this week.
Who is responsible for the bridge? Network Rail! Says it all really
