Automatic winlass

It's not automatic if you have to control it. Does he mean a remote operated standard windlass?
On that basis an automatic gearbox in your car isn't automatic, because you have to tell it forward or backwards.

The OP said:-

"A winlass is is use to pull and drop your anchor remotely from your cabin"

I must be the only person on this forum who knows what they mean.

But did he mean automatic because he can control it from his helm inside his cabin?
If so, I have an automatic windlass that can be operated from my main helm and the flybridge helm.

Joking aside, I'm not sure it is a good idea to operate a windlass without close attention to what is happening. Apart from the final stowing of the anchor, which requires close attention, you should also be aware and in control within the anchorage - avoid other boats etc. Also it is a good idea to take the strain off the windlass by driving the boat very slowly forward. To this end, SWMBO always operates our windlass from the foredeck and gives hand signals to me that tell me which way to slowly drive.
These days, I use my DIY chain counter and anchor camera to determine when the anchor has left the bottom and broken the surface. Of course the boat is then free and we need to avoid other anchored boats.

Pretty clear now he means an electric windlass with a remote control. Question is has anybody fitted one to a Bayliner 2452? Quick Google shows images of this model fitted with electric windlasses so remote control should not be a problem. However there seem to be many variations over the years so exact details of installation might depend on the specific variety the OP has.

As ever would help to have a photo in this case of the foredeck.

If the OP means an electric windlass with remote control, I have one on my sailing boat.

I prefer to be up on the front, using the foot controls, watching the anchor come up rather than at the helm.

I have a garage remote control to operate my windlass but also have a chain counter at the inside helm to allow me to monitor the anchor retrieval if I am not at the bow in bad weather

Buy a winch remote from the internet, £15 of less, it has 4 wires and take 5 minuets to install, comes with 2x hand remotes and normally a lanyard too. I've had one for 4 years and still cant believe how good they are!
