Attempt by our Committee to change the Club rules without notifying the members

Your argument, then, is that the committee of a club should be able to do whatever they like without any fear of public criticism, even if it damages the club? Isn't that much the same argument which meant that the Bristol child heart surgery scandal whistleblower (an anaesthetist) never worked again while the surgeons whose ineptitude leads to numerous deaths got awards?

If the committee had not behaved outrageously, no public statements could damage the club.

Totally different. One pays a membership to a club & can choose-- one cannot normally have choices with the NHS & the public are "stakeholders" in the NHS
Members are stakeholders in a club, not the public at large

There is absolutely no right of Nickc to publicly abuse a club to the " public at large", whether the committee are right or wrong. Especially so when he may well be totally wrong & giving highly biased, inaccurate allegations.

On the contrary. If the committee is behaving outrageously they have no right to throw out anyone who blows the whistle.

As a parallel case, would you say that a club which was fiddling VAT had the right to expel a member who reported the crime to HMRC?

He has subsequently edited out statements which allow the club to be identified. We only have his opinion that the committee have behaved outrageously. He would be very significantly more credible if even one other member agreed with him, but none have rushed to support him. Clubs frequently end up with someone whose entire reason d'etre appears to be objecting and being bloody minded. What possible purpose does his thread serve? Are the committee going to resign en mass because of it? Will he be welcomed back into the club? Obviously not - the thread is intended purely to damage - sour grapes.

The club has fewer than 100 members and anyone who dissents gets thrown out. I am not surprised that the others are keeping their heads down.

My sympathies are with the OP, but there comes a time when it is better (for health, if nothing else), to walk away.

Well - he did post up those pictures of the monstrosity that was installed in the boat he shared with the commodore and 2 other members.... whether the rest of the story is how he told it or not we can't be sure about, but it certainly wasn't a seamanlike installation ...

He also posted an email from one of the engineers which was so far from sanity that it should have been written in green ink.

Ah, but he could've made that up ... ok he could've falsified the engine pics too ... just a bit harder to achieve ...

Never mind all this chit chat. The thread has had all the qualities of an Eastenders saga but we are still short of the final episode which tells us the outcome. Is he still a club member? Has he had a brawl with the secretary? Has it all gone to court? Has the secretary been de-frocked? We demand to know whats happening! Its not fair to leave us in suspense.

Is there an outcome in Eastenders? On the rare occasions (about every 10 years) when I press the wrong button on the remote the characters and the plot still seem to be the same.

How then Pete would you suggest one should deal with a problem of wholly irrational individuals behaving in a completely unreasonable manor?

Making these issues public has always been very much a last resort. As you have seen we have a committee who refuse to abide by their own Club Rules, how would you have dealt with these situations?

Lets be honest my part of that shared yacht would probably not have actually got sold were it not for the peer-pressure applied by publishing those pictures on that outboard thread. With regard to this thread, we had hoped that peer-presure from the committee's of other Clubs in the locality might have been enough to embarrassed our Committee into actually adhering by the rules and allowing members a vote on the matter.
