Attaching picture to bulkhead

I used Velcro on a previous boat, but the pictures were small and I used plastic instead of glass. I rather cunningly put the Velcro patches in the form of a square, so that I could mount the frames in either landscape or portrait format. My new (15 yrs) boat has an unsullied bulkhead because I gave been prevaricating while trying to think how to mount a proper picture. I think that I will have to use brass lugs, though these will show from the front.

A broker once told us that every picture on the bulkheads reduced the selling price of the boat by £1000.00...................

That is part of my concern, though a neat fixture shouldn't put anyone off. I am still considering putting a woodcarving up instead.

You can buy quite small adhesive plastic hooks from wilko, then hang picture with cord attached with small screws to back of frame, while I'm talking screws, Wilco is selling screws loose, you fill two bag sizes, one is 99p the other £1.50. You can get hell of a lot into the bags.

I agree with an earlier poster, two very small screws into the frame.

Velcros fine in theory but if its the industrial strength when you come to remove it, it will almost certainly lift the grain and leave a larg patch. If it isnt industrial chances are in the first bad weather it will let go.

Two small screws leave miniscule holes than can be almost invisibly filled or plugged, and will hold the picture firm in any conditions. I have 6 frames on the "walls" and they have all stayed put.

The problem isn't the screw holes though - they're small, not especially noticeable, can be filled, and may well be covered by whatever you decide to put up instead.

The problem is the faded (or rather, not-faded) patch left behind when the picture is removed. We have two big ones of those on Ariam; I've mostly got used to seeing them but at A3 sort of size they're certainly far more visible than a couple of screw holes. I have a couple of new pictures to mount which will cover the screw holes, but not the patches because the new pics are "landscape" rather than "portrait".

All your clever sticky solutions will still cause the big dark rectangles on the bulkhead. Plus possibly drop the picture on your bonce as you go up the Swinge.

I'll be using screws for my new pictures.

I think you will find you have been procrastinating rather than prevaricating.

No, don't thank me, it's a pleasure to be able to help ....

I use 3M Command Picture Hanging Strips - they hold hard, let you reposition or take the picture down for cleaning and are supposed to be removable without leaving a trace on most surfaces.

I've never had one give way and drop the picture.

Available in various sizes from lots of places - eg

Great find - thanks.
Till now, our pictures are being held by velcro. But after 8 years, they do let go occasionally.
