Does anyone have any information / experience of yacht charter in the Bilbao/Santander area please. SWMBO and I thinking about it this summer.

I don't have any info (or experience) at hand, but am sure I saw charters advertised at Getxo Marina, Bilbao. Don't really know if there's much to explore on such a trip though, not many inlets on a very rocky coast. Although I love the area and am considering as a liveaboard base.

The rias of Vigo and thereabouts, 'round the corner' on the west coast make interesting cruising. Loved it.

I was crewing on a friends yacht so don't know about chartering.

hm, i wd have thort it a bit dull, high cliffs and er that's it. The intersting bits are ashore. Does it really haveto be bilbao/santander?

Life’s a compromise – SWMBO wants to go walking in the Pyrenees and we have negotiated one week walking and one week sailing. Nearest bit of ocean that I could see!

You could always try the med end of the pyrenees - somewhere Perpignan way? Alternatively Arcachon way and drive from there to the walking bit - about 2 hours drive.

A day's driving though Basque, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia is beautiful and gets you to wonderful Rias as mentioned.

Otherwise, great walking in the Picos d'Europa or Someira (?), and then you're much closer to the good sailing.

Who'd want to sail on the Med? Ugh!
