Getting excited now about buying my first yacht and am getting very very close to the ordering of a survey (just got to bite the proverbial bullit) but thought I should just ask this board is anyone knew anything particularly good or particularly bad about an Atlanta Macwester 28 - I have seen a previous post about an Atlanta 8.5 and do not know if this is the same craft - the one I am looking at has a fin keel, standard interior layout of most boats that size and age (1978?)

Specifically also, does anyone know of any owners associations for the boat and anything to look out for at time of survey - I know that the surveyor should find these things but you never know..........

Thanks

I have Mac 30 and I am a member of the Macwester Owners club. See www.macwester.org. Atlanta 28 was development of the Macwester 28. Atlanta bought the rights to the design from Macwester. The Atlanta Vicking 8.5 was a further development of the 28 and had a slightly longer waterline and greater displacement. If you want any further information send me a personal Email and I will let you have my phone number. Good luck. Which part of the country is the boat and where are you going to sail it?

Thanks, will check that site out and see if the Atlanta still qualifies us for membership assuming we get the one we want - will be keeping it in the Clyde we hope so hopefully she should be suited to the seas of the Clyde and further west
