I'm interested in this device, and would welcome comment from any and all who have experience to offer of these....

Firstly, 'matthewriches', a 75 amp alternator on a nominally 14hp enjin.
Secondly, I have two battery banks sited port and starboard, of nominal 132Ah/1690CCA ( grouped ) and 230Ah/>800CCA ( grouped ).... all AGM.

Each of these alone should manage my modest daily power budget, and Start, so I had intended to use the 'American' system of using them alternately for engine Start, then recharge.

The switchery for that now seems 'understandable'.

However, I also have 3 Optima RedTop AGM units, of nominal 50Ah/814CCA nominal each. These are, I'm advised, suitable only for starting roles. I'd like to use one of these in a box under the companionway steps, for simply Start purposes, then recharge. The others would be more than sufficient for 'Services' purposes. All the AGM units have low self discharge, allegedly, so should cope relatively well on a trot mooring.

With all battery banks isolated while I'm away changing my socks, I should be able to trickle-charge each from PV panels without complex and expensive switchery. I should be able to check each battery bank for voltage before attempting Start, and select the most appropriate - recharging from alternator immediately, thereafter PV trickle-charge. And I ought still to be able to sail off and onto my mooring without 'lecky and significant drama.....

I'm interested in whether this ASAP device would let me do all I seek re THREE battery banks, or whether I should KISS, stick with two, and flog the RedTops.

It will keep three banks separate, but as far as i can tell it's a diode pack, not the best option.

IMO, Use one Red Top for the engine and link the port and starboard banks for domestics.Keep both circuits separate by fitting a switch for each circuit. A 3rd switch allows emergency start from the domestic bank or emergency get you home engine use from the domestic bank. For split charging you can use a VSR or a low loss splitter such as the Victron FET based battery isolator.

0.2v voltage drop. Not as good as a victron FET.

If using a good MPPT programmable controller for your solar then adjust the parameters accordingly to take into account of the measured voltage drop if it concerns you and if your equipment allows you to do so.

If you intend to put your 75A alternator into it then you'll want ASAP's 100A person I'd think :ambivalence: https://www.asap-supplies.com/elect...s/spilt-charge-battery-isolator-100amp-741033
