Ok, so its not very exciting being away out in the lead, but hey, my first win, so I'm delighted.

Still watching it though, as its an exciing race for second, who's going to get in first?

Cheers
Al.

I went for a swim. Not a good idea in retrospect.

Am I going to get trounced by Dipper and Sara? Or will I catch Pye-End? All three are beating down (you guys must be knackered after days of that) and I'm running (wind permitting) up from the south west.

I recon, you'll be ok, I'm also helming Indiana(wifes boat)in the south, and I know its asking a lot, but kind of hoping to overtake Dipper and Sara, before the plug is pulled on this race.

I reckon you will comfortably get past. The light winds on the southern side look only to be there for a few more hours, and then it is roller coaster ride for you lot. It was a gamble going north, and at the time with all it looked as though we had missed the boat with the weather and I didn't want to get stuck in light winds for days again. However, wait long enough and there will always be another system coming through, and those boats don't half fly on a reach.

Yup - currently doing 17.7kts ... but to maintain that speed I'm probably going to have to sail 3000-3500Nm ... rather than 2800 direct to the finish (which I can't do from this angle anyway) ...
With 3000Nm I'll have to achieve avg ~16.5kts for the next 180hrs
If it's 3500Nm I'll have to average ~19.5Kts !!

So the beating route @ 11-12 kts is out anyway. If the weather systems play ball I may just squeeze in the finish - otherwise I've got a headstart on leg2! :p
