I phoned up the Radio Licence Centre today to find out what had happened with my application for a transportable VHF licence. I was told that whilst it had been processed - she could give me the T number over the phone, they weren't able to post it to me because they had "run out of printed stationary"! Even more gobsmacking was her statement that she had no idea when they would be getting any more... I mean.. splutter.. cough... what can you say?

Once upon a time

Also in days of yore, when it was the Radio Communications Agency, you used to be able to find quite a lot of useful info on marine radio on the website. Now the RCA hass been consumed by Offcom, and their website is b. useless unless you want to open a TV station.

Think we should all rebel...lets not bother renewing the license...guess they would soon get the forms printed then...p.s. what service do they actually provide for us anyway? think I'll put my dues in the RNLI box!!

I applied to both the UK and French authorities 14 years ago and got turned down by both; each said it was the other's responsibility. I sent a copy of each reply to the other party and said if they could sort it out between them I would be quite happy to pay. I'm still waiting for a reply.

SNAP! They told me that too!

We all got a meaningless notice at the end of last yuear about the changes due to Ofcom taking over.

Like you I was amused (bemused even?) to be told yes we can give you your new callsign but until the Ofcom paper arrives we can't send you your licence.

Actually it arrived on friday last week. Your T licence therefore should be arriving any day now with luck.

I got my renewal licence today. It expired on December 3, 2003 and this is the third time I've had to apply for it. First they lost the cheque so I decided to do it online. That didn't work so had to get new form from them and send it off again. Still, got there in the end.

Its exactly the kind of attitude and response you would expect to get from an organisation which knows you are legally obliged to pay them and you cannot take your business elsewhere.
Given that their jobs are secure whatever the standard of service, we should be grateful that the staff even bother to answer the phone.
