Are there many idiots dry sanding anti fouling where you are

Does that mean the sander must be connected to a vacuum cleaner? Or is a 'vacuum sander' a different device entirely?
Yes, pretty much that, but the sander must be one that is addapted to vacuum cleaner attachment (most newer ones are). You can buy dust collection adapters for angle grinders, but they only work on relatively flat surfaces (sanding bottom but not trimming or shaping).

Ok thanks, I'm safe then..
It's only paying lip service to peoples' lung health anyway, because Henries etc don't have especially fine filters.

In fact, the ultra fine, harmful but invisible particles of antifoul will be effectively distributed by powerful electric fans :D

This forum doesn’t make threads like it used to.
Antifoul isn't like it used to be either.

Pathetic rules and regulations, forced upon us by revolutionary marxists posing as 'environmentalists' have removed all the decent, toxic poisons which kill marine growth, and now the EU-approved slush wouldn't trouble an 81yr old limpet with Covid-19 and a heart problem.
It's basically just very expensive paint, unless you can get hold of the commercial variety which is fantastic.
I got given a few gallons of the good stuff abroad, and as soon as I was launched, 100's of dead fish, some seahorses and a few baby dolphins floated to the surface in the vicinity of my hull, providing a delicious luncheon.
Antifoul must slaughter millions of tiny life forms to be effective, trying to make it 'safe' is like a bad April Fools joke.

Just to be clear, my post was a tongue-in-cheek reflection on the (genuinely funny) rage of a ten year old OP. It was not an invitation to discuss Marxism and slaughter, at least not with me. Pour yourself a rum and chill. It’s a bank holiday.

Are there many idiots dry sanding anti fouling where you are or is it just my yard.
I seems a epidemic of Aldi/Liddl electric sanders has brought out the hibernators in my area. In a effort to catch up they merrily sand for hours on end. They wear cheap face masks and don't bother about anyone else.
Is it just me or does the panel think it is the norm and we should accept the associated risks.

A Brexit benefit.

In yards across Europe you are required to jump through some sensible hoops before working on anti fouling

You still wear PPE. N100 masks if you are smart.

And I'm not sayin' which is smart or important, only sayin' what is different.

But why do you suppose the rule is this way? Because too many people left a mess on the ground for too many years. It's done.

It was getting a bit dusty, so needed shaking up a bit. ;)

That's odd, because there was a thread only a few weeks ago someone who had been feeling very ill for a week(?) after dry- sanding his anti-fouling.

Correlation isn't causation.
1000's of us are sanding, every Easter; it would be more remarkable if nobody happened to feel ill the following week.
Not that I'm saying it's good for the lungs, nothing is; my grandad, a builder, got lung cancer though he never smoked a fag in his life.

For many years I didn't think I had allergies to anything. I have never been worried about stings or bites or what I eat.

I have now found that I'm allergic to colophonium ( also known as Rosin).

It turns out this is in every tin of antifouling I've used over the past few years (I couldn't find any that don't) and also seems to be in the glues holding together the chips in chipboard... It gives quite a rash if just left on my skin and I'd hate to imagine breathing it in.

Allergies can just start even if you were never allergic to something in the past. Perhaps it was all the antifouling I got on my skin whilst younger...

If anyone knows of any antifouling that doesn't contain rosin then please enlighten me.

Do you mean against yard rules?

Illegal is a sweeping statement without any proof.
Well in my experience you have to be dressed appropriately, hire a suitable lady equipped sander with vacuum extraction. Cover the area underthe boat with tarpaulin or similar.

Then at the end of the process the ground covering and the bags of dust have to be passed to an authorised processor for disposal. None of this is of course free.
One yard insisted that a designated site in the yard was used.

Fortunately learned this before moving was a big influencer making us choose Copper out before an extended stay in The Netherlands and Belgium.

Wrong.

Would that include sea horses & Sea grass by any chance?

Regardless off legalities, dry sanding is anti social, inconsiderate and will upset your neighbours.
Another good way to upset them is power hosing after they have just done some varnishing.
