Dear All,
I would like to add channel 31 to my handheld vhf radio.
There are some companies on the South Coast which can do this. But i was wondering if anyone knows of any East coast companies which could do this.

Many thanks

Ian

Edit... typo!!

It may depend which radio you have but when I bought a new Standard Horizon radio as part of the deal Seamark Nunn took my MMSI off my old radio so I could sell it on.
They just hooked it up with a lead while I waited. I would imagine any of the better chandlers or marine electrical contractors could do this .

If you have the appropriate lead, you can program it yourself using "Chirp" https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

I programmed my Baofeng UV5R with all the Short Range marine frequencies, plus all the PMR channels, and more besides.

A poster the other day suggested this from ebay for about £18

Baofeng UV-5R VHF/UHF Dual-Band Ham Walkie Talkies Two-way EU Adapter

it might be an inexpensive option for you

Ian don’t worry about it for Holland just use a phone.
A compatible VHF is not essential for Holland but occasionally useful when contacting bridges or locks. Many bridges will have an intercom at the waiting pontoon/mooring but this isn't always practicable. I've never called in to a marina, though we once phoned ahead to Makkum at a busy weekend.

Thanks all for the suggestions so far.
Sadly chirp won't do my radio (a cobra h330).
Seamark nunn could not understand my request - but could sell me another radio (without channel 31 ... lol ).

So it sadly looks like a manufacturer mod only!

However, PRS Comms are researching for me (I will keep you posted).

Roger - yes.... Telephoning ahead looks like the best option. The Navionics app is great and has all the phones numbers and info listed.

Thanks again for the suggestions

Ian

Dutch Marinas use CH31, a variation of Licence is required from OFCOM to legally have it programmed on a UK HH or fixed VHF.

If your radio is ATIS compatible (and you have the Ofcom variation) switch your set to ATIS mode and CH 31 will be there.
I needed 31 the other day for Cadzand.
(Although we ended up phoning)
