My Ardic heater has been nothing but trouble since we bought the boat. Does anyone know a good service agent on the Thames near Windsor, please? The unit required some attention, after which its electronics 'locked out' start attempts. (Bl**dy thing!) So, I need to find a service engineer with the appropriate kit to 'unlock' it...

My Eberspacher system locks out infrequently for no apparent reason, but it is german, so probably knows best.

Only way to get it to function is to take out the power and control fuses to disable the memory, sometimes need multiple attempts, or the engine running to fire up.

had problems with my first brandnew ardic from the very beginning on for 5 years. because of soot builtup it had to be serviced by eberspacher. there was nothing wrong with the heater. ardic heaters are extremely difficult to start with even the smallest amount of dirt in your diesel- and soot with certain additives in your fuel.
in my case a filter was not installed ,i used cetane boosters and other additives, and the batteries sometimes lacked some voltage. after correction of these faults the heater worked without disturbances.
in my new boat a new ardic of the same type (92???)worked perfectly having clean tanks and not using additives.(read mbm oct 2002)

Oh No!... they havn't got memory as well now have they?......they'll never start if you've upset them before! (guess it's in the fancy timer they now sell).

OK, so no-one has answered my question (see above), but sincere thanks anyway.

Whereabouts are the fuses? I'm not on the boat until the weekend, so I shall have to look then if no-one knows the answer.

Having had new diesel tanks fitted in the Spring, and a proper filter put in for the heater (as the idiot engineer who had fitted it had put a PLASTIC filter in - completely invalidating the BSS!), and only bought diesel from repoutable suppliers since, the fuel should be clean...

Ardic are in fact now owned by VOLVO and the main source of servicing and parts is Aquamarine in the UK.

I had an Ardic on my Freeman32 and you can package it up (ie remove the main Heater from the boat) and send the whole thing off to Aquamarine and they will fix it and test it and send it back again - and the important news is it didnt cost a lot (circa £150 I think!)
I personally sent mine via Uxbridge Boat Centre as they are dealers for Aquamarine and fairly local to Bray.
Try this link to find them.

Nothing but trouble, replace it!

I used to have one, it was truly awful. Replaced it with a Mikuni, best thing I did. They are nothing but trouble.
