Grandson has just joined the ship for a week.
Hopefully the end result will be somebody aboard my boat will actually know to navigate properly .

Note in the crewcabin
This is not a Cruise ship.It is a Training ship.

In Gosport, then cross the sea to Cowes , then round to Ramsgate via a marina or two enroute.

I hope your grandson has a great week, as well as learning a lot.

Some 50 years ago 😲 I was fortunate enough to experience a 2 week trip on the Malcolm Miller, one of two top sail schooners (along with the Sir Winston Churchill) operated by the Sail Training Association.

Having done and achieved much, it remains the most fulfilling and exciting experience of my life and I hope your grandson has a similar experience.

Sadly age has caught up with me and I am now in the process of moving from sailing to the dark side 😬

I’ve seen her there a few times, this was definitely Weymouth. Crew were great when I met them, very friendly and keen to talk about the ship and their experiences
I wasn't sure if she was the same vessel but if @oldgit clicks on the Weymouth Harbour link I posted above you can see her live as she's moored outside the HM office. I assumed from the first post she was heading East

Departed Gosport and after some gyrations in the Solent moored in Cowes according to AIS. His Mum is tracking him.
Plan is shore leave in Cowes then back to Gun Wharf ? overnight and on eventually to Ramsgate possibly via Brighton/Sovereign and Dover .
Only allowed mobile phone from 21.00 to 22.00. Already one complaint regards his bed via text.
Equal numbers of young ladies and gentlemen aboard plus the regular crew and the lady who confiscated their phones and will feed them who is probably actually in charge.
The chap responsible for teaching navigation is a RYA instructor and hours logged can be used towards RYA qualifications.

:)

The sea cadets have five vessels in their fleet.
2 motor craft, 2 yachts and proper 3 masted sailing ship.
We passed a 2 masted Sail Training yacht at the Kyles of Bute, when on the final part of the Day Skipper, weather was a bit blowy and she took in her sails before coming through the narrows.
We anchored up beside the Burnt Islands and had lunch, we then headed for Rothsey but the harbour was closed and we passed the yacht when we got to the Clyde, she had not put her sails back up.

I spotted this ship earlier but I suspect only training is drinking local rum. The other larger one is more interesting if you fancy a cold cruise but who knows more about her-been out there for a few days now not moving

The ship looked immaculate - BZ to all involved.

Impressed with the number of hours spend underway after dark.
Underway to Dover at 6 knots. ETA 16.00.

Next stop Queenborough then up the Thames to HMS President, return to Queenborough and if time allows, Chatham.
Why is it never that calm when I go there ?
