Actually its Chinese and I think may well be the best boat of its type anywhere.
So you would out of hand condemn Fleming’s, Nordhavn's, Grand Banks and many others all made in the far East would you?
Instead of engaging in the discussion in a sensible manner you resort to sarcasm and sniping rather than actually answer the questions put to you.
You seem to mix up specing the entertainment system or the inverter with the basic structural design of the boat. Yet when your illogical approach is pointed out to you - you just snipe back.
I find your views amazing and lacking in any sort of credible logic.
OK - Seconds are out - Round One. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Come on chapps lets keep this fun----
Paul is correct though We have chosen our particular boat -It is a matter of opinion as to whether it is the correct one - having said that let's keep to the point and that is what should be included in the spec. at the time of build
We have thought of two extras
1. WATER SOFTENER - we are on our boat while I pen this and having just had a shower - it would be nice to have SOFT water
2. HEATING ONTO THE AFT COVERED AREA. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
The same heating that heats the aft area with little matrix units can also be used to heat the fly bridge - pushing out hot air at your feet to take the chill off. It can also be used as a demister as well as heat underway without the gene on.
With an inverter and some diesel heating you have a very flexible underway system.
I would also add an electronic barometer to provide the pressure curves over the last 7 days .... but that may be just me.
It is really interesting to hear all opinions on all the different aspects of buying a boat and not just a wish list of extras.
Yes, Mapism does have a very unusual slant on vessels but he does talk some sense even though his style of writing is rather caustic, but this should not distract from the debate.
Gludy, may I suggest you keep a little calmer as you input to the debate is very interesting as always, but you should accept that you to have a very narrow perception on what is the ideal boat.
Guys, lets all keep this thing light hearted and full of good suggestions and ideas even though we will not agree with all of them.
Glenn, it looks like you have taken over from Gludy as the forum leader.
Doug, Thanks for that nice to see you are up /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I think Paul deserves a little rest from his ordeal and he is still a little raw! He is bound to be touchy when it comes to his next choice of boat. But I agree with you his input is always warmly welcomed.
Sir, so far you told me that:
- what I'm saying does not make sense;
- I am not living on this planet;
- I am not engaging in the discussion in a sensible manner;
- I resort to sarcasm and sniping rather than answer the questions (which ones, btw?);
- my views are amazing and lacking any logic.
If this is your idea of a 'sensible discussion', well, I begin to simpathise with Mr.Chappell.
Rest assured that I won't bother you anymore with my illogical comments.
But I must apologize for my mistake re. Marlow factory.
Didn't they start their operation in Taiwan? I told that by heart, I must admit.
Or did they move to China afterwards, to further reduce costs, maybe?
Anyway. I honestly wish you it will materialize as the 'best boat of its type anywhere'.
After all, you probably had a similar opinion of Trader, when you decided to buy it, didn't you?
mapisM May I respectfully suggest if you wish to continue with this thread with Paul that you contact with him on his "ocean deep" blog - cos we are not interested in this back and forth PLEASE stick to this subject or go /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Mapism
I am not in the slightest bit bothered if people disagree with me. I am interested in constructive criticsm.
It does not bother me if my suggestions re taken on board or not. Many are very subjective there being no right or wrong.
Your points were that is somehow specing the sat dish leads or the beds that it was somehow detracting from the main design of the boat..... a point I still fail to grasp. When I pointed out that they were not connected you came back with sniping remarks based on me specing such details and letting the main design of the boat pass me by ..... you did not deal with the issues at all.
Even now you do not deal with the points.
You asked a question which I shall answer:-

No I never had a similar opinion. My friends would tell you that the Marlow always ranked as the best in my opinion. I chose another boat because of convenience. I did have respect for that alternative. However, I did make a mistake, a big mistake and openly admit to it. in fact I know of no owner who, in the history of boating, could have ever admitted that more openly than myself.
This mistake however has no bearing on my list of options for Glenn. The fact that you are dragging all these things in on top of what is a fairly simple list of suggestions for Glenn makes the very point I am making about your responses.
Please explain to all why I cannot make a list of simple suggestions to Glenn without you popping up claiming that in doing so I am ignoring the major design and safety aspects of the boat and then proceeding to describe a leisure boat that does not exist!!

I really do not see myself as any sort of forum leader. For a start there are many on this forum who have forgotten more than I shall ever know about boating. I really do not see it as the forum having any leaders at anytime.
I am not in anyway objecting to foruumites disagreeing with me. I simply got fed up with the sniping remarks of Mapism who was making the point that simple because I was offering suggestions to Glenn made me somehow forget the main design criteria of the boat as having any importance. When I pointed out the lack of connection Mapism returned with a sniping remark rather than again deal with the point ..... frankly that technique annoys me and I let him know that.

Maybe you should have addressed your very understandable request at both contenders, considering the latest Gludy reply above. Sorry if you saw this useless rant as started by myself, that wasn't my perception.
But as I said, your request is fully understandable anyhow, and I'm glad to comply - case closed from my part.
All the very best for your new boat!
My remarks to you were light hearted and meant in jest and no one more than me followed your sad sage with TC with greater interest. The fact that hopefully you have come out on top gives me great pleasure but without doubt your postings were the main focus for most of us.
The point is that now Glenns postings have taken over as being the most popular but no doubt this pleases you as your problems with QB are now resolved.
I think MapisM is getting to you as I have never seen you posting in other than an agreeable manner.
Go back to being your old self and don't let them grind you down.
I can confirm you had indeed had a shower, cos we had a chat across our two boats about that time, and you woz in a rather spendid dressing gown smelling all fresh :~)
Glenn, have you considered a power cat instead of a semi displacement monohull?
Cats have everything going for them - here is quite a nice example that might meet your requirements - have a look at the Innovation 60 from down under at http://www.powercat.com.au/innovation60.htm
Cats have excellent sea-keeping, stacks of room, are often more fuel efficient than similar sized monohulls, and you dont have to worry about different types of stabilisers!
Hi Bajan sailor, I have considered every type of boat and made my decision on the Aqua-Star 65 for many, many personal reasons it ticks all the boxes Jill and i need in our new boat.. If it is all the same to all posters could we now move on to the items peeps think are essential extras that would make life how it should be when on board - shangri la!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
One technical point we are going to have to sought out - somebody might be able to steer me straight on - We want to keep the name of our boat - at the moment she is registered in Southampton and as we are bringing the new boat into Southampton as well for the first 2 weeks of her life we would like to register her there too. Does anyone know the form?
In no particular order and guaranteed not to interefere with the sea worthiness of the boat:-
One thing I try to plan out is fender storage - my guess is you will need to be able to store 8 Euro size fenders. Fender baskets at thye bow restrict visibility so it pays to plan what you will do.
My swmbo is 5 foot and does not like lumbering large fenders around so we came up with our own strap storage system whereby the fenders are clipped up in the horizontal posiution within seconds.
Also do not fotget - Aquastar will make low level cleats in the hull - they need to do this at hull mould time ..... just in case you forgot.
I also now add extra bathroom power points so that you can have the toothbrush etc on charge - if you only have one there is often a lot of plugging and unplugging.
If you use charts as backup then consider a Yeoman plotter - I use them as sdtandard now. I update the position on the chart within seconds every nowe and then.
If you are using the boat with just two of you have the Raymarine MOB system - without it you could travle miles without knowing swmbo was overboard.
All the above are just ideas ..... no more ...... they are the sort of thing I think about when specing my boat after all the important stuff is done.
I think all the important stuff has been covered, so here's just a few ideas to make life on board a bit easier and/or more comfortable. Not saying you should have all these, just consider them.
Electric sea cocks with central control
Rope cutters (i'd go for the single blade type)
Plumbing so you can purge toilet inlet pipes with fresh water when leaving (so no smell when you get back)
Course open cell foam in exterior cushions so they don't hold water (can't understand why this isn't standard on all boats)
New type water resistant fabric vs. vinyl on exterior cushions
Fender holders fabricated into bow guard rails
MOB system
Icemaker, probably standard?
Oversize anchor
I'd also think carefully about the AV equipment you want on board, much easier to install nice TV's and sound system before the final fit.
If you're not going for satellite broadband, then consider a wireless bridge and external aeriel.
With the camera system i'd also fit a camera in the saloon (as well as looking aft and in the engine room), so if there's only two of you on board and SWMBO goes below, you can check she's OK
