My apologies to users for slowness and outages on the ybw.com network of websites today.

The main hub at LINX (London Internet Exchange) was bombarded by a burst of broadcast data this morning that made us, and many other sites, run slow. Then our branch dropped out altogether this afternoon whilst they repaired switches.

Hopefully we're all back to normal now.

Yes, loads of other UK sites were very slow this am, not just yours.

Fortunately I charge my clients by the hour, so everything took longer, so not too bad then ;-)

I noticed on Tuesday that our office connection (1mb) was dead slow and stop. Call me suspicious but were Osama Bayliner and his cronies up to something?

I am based in Glasgow and a failed hub in London would be a lot less likely to affect my connection to Scottish Enterprise, for example, although I can understand it might slow YBW. Or do all the infrastructure providers share facilities? Or does one down knock onto them all?

Many internet routes in the UK lead to LINX in London before going elsewhere, so you might have been caught in the problem. As for cause, have heard nothing more but fingers I believe are pointing towards an over-adventurous techie rather than anything else...
