Probably the wrong people to ask (I can already imagine the response to this post) but here goes ...

I have a 44 foot sail boat moored in a marina. The marina is silting up so much that it will probably be a beach in a few years time so I have reluctantly decided to move to power. The sail boat draws almost 6 foot 6 inches when loaded and due to the silt problem I have difficulty getting in and out of the marina when I want to.

I am ideally looking to swap for a Trader type Trawler Yacht (or equivalent) because I would like to retain at least some of the off shore capabilities of my sailing yacht. My boat is worth around £98k and would want something of similar, or less value (money either way). There is no finance involved because the boat belongs to be outright.

This is a genuine enquiry and anyone interested can post here or send me a personal message (PM).

OK, so now I've gone and done it I only have to sit back and wait for the laughs, jokes and the "I told you so's)

Such is life ............

Reluctantly move to power? Why not move to another marina?
Sounds like an excuse to make the move!! Good luck in finding the right boat.

Traders are very "wet" boats, and are made in the far east somewhere. Perhaps not as good as you think, maybe?

Been out of the country for a few weeks so just catching up on my messages....

Not so much an excuse to change because I have already owned 2 power boats previous to my existing boat and 1 yacht prior to the power boats. The problem is the marina. It's a beautiful location, has fantastic facilities, is close to my home (less than 90 mins) and I have been here for some 7 years now and have made some great friends. So I don't really want to lose it all. I just want to go sailing and it’s getting more and more difficult due to the problems the place has with siltation.

As for the comment from Moose about Traders, I can't really say weather they are wet or not. Some 4 weeks ago I went for a 4 hour trip on a Trader 42 (think it was a 42 or possibly a 44) and it was fantastic. There was a swell of about a metre but no white horses and she handled it superbly, no problems at all. She was a little bit "rolly" when turning but not so much to make it uncomfortable. There was little or no wind so no chance of any spray flying but the bow is very flared and I suppose it would direct most of the wet stuff outwards. The main thing for me however was she only draws 4 feet - 2 feet 6 inch less than my boat. This equates to at least a couple hours more sea time than I currently get.
