Anyone use GPS anchor alert?

Yep, I can be tied up in the marina and still have 0.1kn speed showing. Questioned Plastimo (Navman) about that and "Duh!" was the reply "should not do that!". I do think you are correct though it is the bits in the sky that are the problem - just set AW to 0.2nm and that fixes the problem.

My Navman 5500i nearly always shows 0.1kts and a course when on my mooring but the position symbol only rotates.

Does this happen on other makes?
 
The trouble is 0.2nm is 400 yards. That's a hell of a way to drag before getting alerted. The old problem used to be selective availability that gave an average GPS error of 200 yards. When that was switched off the anchor watch became useful.
edit... ps yards and fathoms are much easier than metres.
