Just leafing through some old photos and came across old Mr DeSolo and I in the Royal London YC Cowes in the early 70s., anyone remember him? A long gone real character, member of *EVERY* Royal Yacht Club in the Country barring the Squadron. He was a Portugese Anglophile who was fabulously wealthy, I think he owned Ellerman Shipping. He was so rich that in World War 2 he told the Royal Navy to build a Destroyer and send him the bill. They did and made him an honorary Lt. the two stripes he wore on his Club Mess uniforms for the rest of his life. Yes! in those days we still wore Mess kit in Royal Yacht Clubs although even then it was dying out.
