Anyone know what this motorboat is in Howards Way

Pulled out the box set of Howards way the other day and my wife took a shine to one of the boats that featured...anyone know what it is ?

Definitely a Hatteras 53. I went on one when a kid which was owned by a family friend of a friend I was staying with on holiday. These friends had a then new Princess 41 (which I thought was huge) but it looked tiny when rafted alongside. I remember the port and starboard engine rooms Lovely thing.

Never had a lot of shame to be fair....Dont mind admitting it at all....acting is crap, well actually a lot worse than that, but its our neck of the woods so we know all the places and the boats are good....great humour in the fashion....whats not to like...:)

There was definitely a Fletcher Zingaro 28 used as the Howard’s Way boatyard ‘development‘ boat in the series.
Fletcher made a lot of marketing out of it.
Was fitted with twin Mercruiser 350’s

It was seen by Fletcher as the saviour of the company, as most of their business was 14-21’ low profit boats …. Finding it hard to compete against the American imports that came with much better build & all the bells whistles.
Around the same time Fletcher did a deal with Mercury and launched their ‘Black Max Packages’, competing directly with Picton SunSport package.
Did not work out though, Fletcher business fizzled away, and company changed hands many times.

In the 70s and early 80’s my local boating bay would be full of Fletchers and Pictons, with a sprinkling of Shakespeare, Simms, Broom and occasional Ring.
All disappeared to be replaced by Maxum, Mariah, Tahoe & Bayliner.

Now those have given way to other US brands.


I had a few Fletchers, Picton and even a jet driven Simms …. Great fun, enjoyed them, but all suffered from poor finish, especially with plywood floor and sear bases which rotted far too easily, and poor upholstery.
 
Howards Way is getting quite a resurgence at the mo. I think this is the 2nd thread in a week. To answer about a 5 year old point, I have the boxed set and I've watched it more than once through. I think it's a great series with lots of boats. What's not to like? :D

It's worth a re-visit if watched on a screen that isn't too large.
It doesn't look good on a 65" OLED if you are used to 4k content.

The acual fletcher 28 used had twin big block Volvo Penta V8 . I went to Brighton and back in that. One of the quickest boats i been on as it waa just a bare shell. In that during filming when I was at Quay Marine.
Other boats used from Chris Collman was Gobbi 28, Quayline 16/18. A Sea Ray 350. Fletcher Arrow bolt. The two sealine 285, one Sea gypsy Volvo 212 v8. Plus another 285 that was Collmans own boat. From which Kens Masters is seen on the Beaulieu River and ended on top of Sarah Foster on the rear sunbed. Scene.
