Am I missing something, is £414k for an F42/5 a bargain?

If that's what they are asking, it certainly isn't!! The base price of the boat on the 2006 price list is £301K (with D6's) - add a bit for 2007, and it's around £310K. Add around £20K for the basic additions a stock boat may have and you get to around £330K. You would probably demand 20% discount off that to bring the figure to around £280K, and that's a reasonable bargain for a brand new F42/5.

Where did you get the £414K from??

I don`t know the details of their split from Fairline but had always thought it was along the lines of "if we can`t have everything then we`re not taking anything." Fairline said OK suit yourself and sold boats through brokers. People like Essex were given a huge boost (I suspect a good deal of the BA Peter`s loss is Essex`s gain so let`s not be too hasty with the "marine industry goes to the wall" talk just yet. More of a re-alignment possibly.

Peters were never going to sell Sealines successfully. I`ve stood talking to them and have been told the only place to p/x a sealine is against another Sealine, no one else wants them and they are very much the poor relation of the boat world. 6 months later and suddenly Sealine are not only good enough to take in p/x but they were angling to be the main supplier of them in the UK. At Southampton we looked at their new range and whilst the bloke who used to clean our boat not only recognised us, gave us a lift to the show from our car & gave us tickets to get in the sales staff needed a bit of a poke to get someone to swing into action. It didn`t help that the F42/5 leaked like a sieve. A recent trip to look round another F42/5 (never let it be said we don`t give things a chance) showed up broken catches, broken TV runners, poor woodwork, disappointing layouts etc.

Compare that to a faultless service received by the sales staff at Princess, a quality product and there you have the answer. We`ve just bought a brand new boat so there is money out there, it just didn`t go in the Peter`s coffers I`m afraid.

I too hope all the good loyal hard working people get jobs elsewhere (and suspect they probably will - Essex are opening up Fairline dealership at the former Sealine HQ on the Hamble).

I certainly hope (but have no belief) that customers do not lose money in this. I would imagine that if they do the BMF would have to change its position on its continued Presidency.

Sorry for slow reply Nicho, been out and about.

When I saw the posts of bargain F42/5 I looked on the Peters website, under special offers, there were a few F42/5's - reasonably spec'd as it happens (gen and air I think) but that still didn't seem a good price given the circumstances of their company, a stock boat, the red issue, rising interest rates etc etc

Just looked and the Peter's site has been taken down, now just a note from the administrators, not a good way to try to keep business moving!
