Anyone in Swanwick this evening?

Yep, I thought it was v generous of Princess to host the bank holiday barbeque of the ybw.com forum - attendees included nick_h, mjf, rogerrat, kcrane, illusion (with his brand spanking new boat, very nice!) amongst others. Good fun - nice to see everyone.

Had a fab run back to Bton last night, waited until just before 8pm to catch the flood tide, wind had fallen away to nothing and it was as flat as you like all the way back - cruised at 30-32kts for the whole trip, back on berth just after 10pm. Lovely.

Cheers
Jimmy

Glad to hear your back safe, I did wonder when you would run back, we pulled into weymouth yesterday afternoon, had a great run across from Lymington.

Agree - very nice opportunity to catch up in person in the sunshine with nice backdrop of Princess motor yachts too!

Thanks Nick H for the heads up on the V85 - I remember the boat from LIBS but did not look at the ER which as you say has a wow factor. 1st Princess on V drives too this model.

Look forward to catching up with you guys during the summer months ahead as we cruise about.

Hi Paul, thanks again for the servicing work on Friday, great to meet you (and btw I've sent you an email to your hotmail account). I hope you're going to take advantage of the Weymouth Balti House and also Ming Wah's in the high street while you're down in Weymouth. Are you going to go round the corner to Dartmouth?

Cheers

Sorry to have missed all you guys last weekend. We had to come home last Thursday, so unlike last year, missed the BBQ and the envy making trips around boats we could never afford!!

Back down tomorrow (Weds) for three weeks so if ever you are around again, pop down to D34 and have a cold beer on board our S48, "Prophecy".

We are off to Lymington (Yacht Haven) Friday 'til Monday, then Yarmouth for 3/4 days, and thereafter.....? Well, depends on the weather, maybe home to Swanwick, or perhaps to Weymouth (just love that place!).

Cheers all

Hi JTB. Have to say we too had a fabulous flat sea run to Brighton a couple of weeks ago, though our stay was less than great. After hovering in the fairway for 15 minutes (yes 15!) whilst they ignored three VHF calls announcing our arrival, and finally (after an age), finding us a space in the Western end (in spite of booking the day before, they seemed to know nothing of our due arrival), we set off to find it. We were then told we could not go there, to turn around, and to go to berth 31/38 at the far Eastern end of the marina (almost in Eastbourne!!) opposite the fuel berth.

We berthed there amongst a number of liveaboards (three delightful children next to us - refreshing change!) whilst on the other side, two guys were refitting (and machine sanding!) a wooden yacht. They had Elvis Presley CD's blaring out on their player, though did turn it down on request.

Next door but one, had a dog that spent all day on the bows howling at another dog on the next pontoon, that reciprocated of course, whilst beyond that, another liveaboard was using the pontoon as a workshop making windows for someones house! Just beyond him was a small raft tied alonside the pontoon on which a swan was hatching 5 eggs. Everytime we walked past, the Cob got very aggressive as if to say "come on then, if you think you're hard enough"!!

Having berthed, we walked a good half mile to the marina office, to find it was closed for 30 minutes for a staff meeting, even though they had opened the pier gate for us to walk the last 400 yards!!

By now, SWMBO was not at all happy, and was intending to have someones's scalp!

So, we decided to go the town on the electric train - but it was only operating halfway to the pier, and the next train was not due for 20 minutes, we decided to walk, and 2+miles later made it through the mist to the pier. We caught the bus back!!

Then the fog came down!! Two days of it, 12 degress C, whilst 1 mile inland it was 20+ degrees in sunshine.

The skipper of a survey vessel at the end of the pontoon (that noisily left at 06.00 every morning) reckoned it was 20 metres viz.........then the fog horn started!! All bloody night!!

By now we just wanted to get back to civilisation, but were stuck there with the fog.
Finally it lifted on day two at 14.00 - quick call to shoreham airport, 5000m, same at the Selsey Bill lifeboat station, so we legged it a day earlier than planned!!

Great run back, poor viz, but flat calm, and back on our Swanwick berth 2hr 50 mins later.

Some trip!!

Sorry to miss everyone at Swanwick. We did Poole to Ocean Village on Saturday despite the weather, but by the time we got to Southampton water we were so exhausted that the thought of setting off again rather than just berthing up was not an enticing one.

Luckily the weather Sunday and Monday made up for it - not quite a "flatter than a flat thing" day yesterday, but calm enough that we were able to do Newtown Creek to Poole chain ferry in under an hour.

Hope to catch up with you out on the water during the rest of the season.

It was good to meet other forumites - we have three within sight of our boat and Nicho just one pontoon away. Thanks to J_t_B for making the introductions.
