Anyone else have a nice day out today?

Yep, been out there today, blasted over to the IOW and after messing about over there, we headed back anchored at W Witt and then went in. Great fun and great day.

Too much work to get out this weekend :(

But took my son down to the Thames for some further testing of his "Project Boat"

As requested, not actually from today as I had no camera with me, but going the same way to the same place - Port Solent to Lymington.

We took a day trip to Lymington too. Didn't realise just how nice a day it was - l look like a beetroot today now.

Bit of a lumpy trip back to Poole though. Forecast was for the northerly wind to die out through the day so surprised to run into quite a fresh westerly on the way back. Made for slow going at times. Think everybody else must have known something we didn't as hardly saw anyone on the way back (apart from a Targa 29 that whipped past us). Bet is was much more fun going the opposite way down to Port Solent!

Great weekend, Bigbury Bay

Went up to Burgh Island, then took the dinghy up the River Avon (the little one).

Great pics everyone!

The fish at Lymington are hilarious; they make such a loud noise sucking the weed of the pontoon floats... Had me baffled for ages before I realised what it was :)

I bought a new hat in Lymington and then stayed under the canvas to keep the sunburn at bay.

The journey back was quite pleasant running mostly with the waves.

The only thing that I have found is that a particular point back to Portsmouth a few miles West of Spit Bank Fort and when going against the current the boat slows down significantly and unless I am careful will actually drop off the plane. After this has happened, simply adding more power makes loads of noise creates lots of spray but doesn't add any speed which is intriguing. If I notice the slow down in time put the trip tabs down a little and increase power a little all is OK but if I just go to WOT I seem to fall off the plane anyway.

I don't think I have a problem with the props as I was able to come back faster than we went at the same revs for most of the return journey and I recently reached 32 knots which is the boats top speed. Perhaps the engines can in some conditions spin the props to the point where they don't generate much forward thrust?

First ones were used in the 1930's to 'ferry' peeps across to the unique place
In 1969 Beare @ Sons of Newton Abbott remade some 'new' ones
They can go across in up to 8 ish ft of water, unless its blowin a hooley!!
I recomended one to Anglesey Borough Council to run tourists through the Swellies.
But some blokes came up the path in white coats holding a strait jacket

Get it -- 'strait jacket'

Oh, --- I,m too good for this plaice!!

That tractor is quite an amazing contraption - I went on a voyage (expedition?) on it once over to the island (and we walked back later, when the tide was out) about 20 years ago.

There was (still is?) a wonderful wee pub called the Pilchard Inn where we munched on the most amazing Cornish pasties (light years better than any you buy in cellophane in a supermarket) and washed them down with excellent real ale.
A magical place.

We have ducks , normally at 5am and they are chewing the weed off the hull at the water line.must give it a clean.

River Avon

A great weekend, hoping for a lot more this summer.

Thanks Bob,
Excellent piccies of my home territory. We often go up the Avon in our boat - tide & swell willing. It's quite exciting, to start and finish with!!

Did you anchor on the N.Side of Burgh Island as I've never seen anyone do that before?

I'm yet to really find out what height the entrance dries to - suppose I should ring the HM at Bantham.
This last week has been really super - as good as all last Summer put together - albeit the wind has been pretty cool. Wish I could summon up the guts to try to post pictures myself.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the season.

Yeh, tiss magical an the Pilchard is still there

Yes and what a grim place it is!! Unless it has been done up since last year, it's the darkest dirtiest pub I've ever been in.

Andie Mac - there is an hotel on the island that provides stays with a 1930s atmosphere also an Agatha Christie/who-dunnit theme I believe.
