Usually my email has about 30 spams in the morning, I view and delete them with Pop3 Scan Mailbox so as not to unduly exercise Norton. I have another email address that usually gets 2 or 3 sex related spams in the morning, and they are easy because they are all addressed to sales@ which is not used by me.

This morning I have 68 on the first and 45 on the second and almost all of the were RE:(virus delivery), you get to recognise them.

None got to me, but why today? Anyone else had a visitation from the damned?

Nope, haven't seen this one at all.

Tend to update regularly, have firewall and AVG software (very good).

Will await my turn. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yes loads today. Office firewall kills them, but sends me an automated massage saying a dodgy email has been sent to me and dumped due to virus, so if I really want it I need to ask sender to resend. I have had lots of those today, normally I get very few. Some of the senders were well-known US universities with .edu domain names

yes today in particular I had 20 all with various virus.

I have restricted my email accounts to just 10 names @ our domain so at least I am not getting the 100 + every day that dont get picked up by the message rules for junk.

One email was purported to be from someone@reliableserviceco.com which seems to be a kosher website. Does the sender of these virus's just use that name?

I've had three "administrator" mails this morning informing me mails I haven't sent contained virii. I run Norton liveupdate minimum once a week and never open attachments unless I recognise the source, and never open any file beginning RE: unless I sent it first. I will of course do a complete check today but I don't think it's me. I think like so many of the others it simply takes an email address at random from the infected computer to use as a "from" and mails it on to everyone in the file.

Interestingly after yesterdays deluge, today I didn't get one.

You have a bit of a problem John. In order to continue in business you have to advertise your email address. Spammers scan the web picking off all the email addresses and then spamming them.

you can stop this by long hand writing your address for instance

johnatmilltecdotcom

people can then change the words back to symbols, unfortunately many genuine customers etc will not be bothered and loss of business will ensue. Others change their address regularly but again this will result in loss of return custom. Others will use key words to filter spam, but again as you are a supplier many key words used at home might loose mail to your business inbox from your suppliers that you actually wanted, catch 22, you I presume want some sales and offers emails.

I guess you will have to hope the USA and EU proposed directives will have some effect in the future.

Glad I don’t have your mailbox, my main address receives zero spam, but I am really careful where I use it. My yahoo address which is about 8 years old now is becoming unusable.

Yes the milltech address is a respository for all sorts of offers, and although the majority are what one might expect, a few foreign suppliers do find me that way and I don't want to exclude them.

BTW I need some sort of testemonial from you soon if you don't mind. I've had your reworked Clipper sitting on the shelf and I need to combine it with a transducer and sell it on. Explaining it's circumstances may help.
