Any yacht club admins want to try my membership software?

I’ve read the Ts & Cs for the forum and I don’t think this post breaches them but mods - I’ve been here for 20 years so if this is not ok please let me know and do whatever you need to do re. deletion. Thanks. The only other forum I post on is PistonHeads so you may see a similar thread there too. I've intentionally not referenced any company details or app name either here or there.

A friend and I have developed a club/sports app that:

> Manages members details (and allows for self-serve)
> Allows for customisation of subscription types, amounts and frequencies
> Links family members (to allow adults to pay for minors etc)
> Links to Stripe and GoCardless for payments and provides full reporting
> Has a newsletter/comms function for sending to different groups as the admins determine
> Has the ability for admins to set up events and track indications of attendance (yes/no/maybe) from a single click on a link in an announcement email and without the user having to log in

We set this up for a club (a pipe band with north of 100 members - be polite!) that we were both helping to run but there was an almighty bust-up about something else so our trial organisation imploded, leaving us without a trial 'customer'.

We're now looking for a friendly/tame club or other organisation who has c.100 members and struggles with paper or spreadsheet admin - and would benefit from more reliable subscription payments and reporting (maybe a yacht club, which is why I’m posting here). We'll work with you to set up your club and provide support to get you running smoothly. You'd need to have a club bank account and be willing to set up GoCardless and/or Stripe if you don't already have it. It would help if you ran weekly or monthly subs so we're not relying on annual transactions - and can test on a frequent basis. For clarity, we would not have access to your bank, GoCardless or Stripe accounts other than the APIs that GoCardless and Stripe allow for third party set-up and reporting. We're already approved by both of those organisations.

Everything is set up properly - we have a limited co, secure database, help centre, professional website, FB presence etc. It is an MVP so there will be some teething challenges but that's why we'd provide 2 years of free use (maybe more if the concept takes off). Probably irrelevant, but we're both professional engineers in our day jobs. We started working on this in May 2025 and had it running on a trial basis for 'our' club by September.

We have been looking at bringing in a database and Sailing Manager was one of those we thought might fit.
However, it was far too focused on racing to be of any real use for us when weighed against the monthly cost.

Realistically, your app may be of interest, but we already use SumUp for taking card payments and ruled out using Stripe and GoCardless when we were looking at payment systems.

Perhaps our Data Controller would be interested in helping you out, if only for his own interest in such things, but our Treasurer would be far more interested in the subscription costs after the initial trials.

You say there's a website maybe they could look at?

I'm not sure that's true at all. I use it via two clubs one of which does little or no racing the other does plenty of racing but that only makes up perhaps 20% of the club activity. I'm not sure SCM is used to manage racing especially.

Seems to me SCM does: membership administration, renewals, payments, calendar, events or training booking, duty rostering, Boat park / moorings management.

IMHO SCM is a bit crap so there's definitely room for a competitor, but the switching costs (in time) are high once a club has integrated SCM into their processes.

I'm sure other opinions will be available.
