Should be arriving soon.
We got stopped twice by the Border Agency (boarded once), once by a PLA launch to check the transit pass and four times (boarded once) by the police. The problem was that once boarded and cleared they were supposed to radio ahead so you didn't get stopped again. Needless to say they didn'tHopefully they've got their act together a bit more now.
I am planing a passage through London later this month. Is there any way the boat and passengers can be pre registered to enable smoother passage, or is it just take it as it comes?
Yes , we can give you one at the lock.
Get to us early and walk down and see us , takes about 10 minutes to issue one.
No need to apply direct to the PLA.
There are two passes , one is a 'transit pass' for boats just passing through , on their way to the Estuary or out of the control zone , and a 'confirmed mooring' pass , which is for boats that have a pre booked mooring somewhere within the control zone.
Basically , we take a few details off you at the lock , where you are heading to , name , address , boat details etc and so forth and we can issue you with a pass. They are only valid for that particular journey though , so on your return you will need to get another one.
I must emphasise that you need to sort this out with us before you enter the lock , as we won't issue them while boats are in the lock as it takes just that bit too long and will clog up our locking system.
Thats Andrew and Liz.Lizander just past me at shiplake. RCC flag are they scout party for the rest?
The Border Agency who boarded me off Canvey, police who boarded me a few miles further on, and the PLA who stopped me well before the QE2 Bridge all wanted sight of the PLA pass. Would think it better if poss to get the inbound pass in advance.Limehouse can issue them for the inbound journey AFAIK.
