Any body got news on Watchet ?

We are putting together a sailing program and wondered if you had any idea when Watchet would be available for 8 - 10 boats later in the season

Latest news published in West Somerset Free Press is more delay.

The hydraulic ram was thought to be a standard item but it was originally manufactured as a 'one off' when the marina was built.

No drawings can be found so it has to be re-designed and re-made. Another month's delay we are told.

Why the marina did not realise this earlier beggars belief. Such incompetence so it goes on!!

Here's a link to the hydraulic ram issue:

the sorts of problems encountered are astonishing. I really find it difficult to believe that nobody kept drawings or documentation for the gate or, it seems, its associated parts- nor perhaps more intelligently, designed the marina in its entirety in a manner which used off the shelf stuff everywhere. It's not reassuring that the marina operators themselves have so little knowledge of the components and their history/design/origin that they believe highly customised parts to be off the shelf items. But it seems that somebody (who?) before them threw away the instruction manual!

We've booked tickets to the Watchet festival on 30 August and are still hoping to go over......

Another good weekend in Watchet. All the pontoons leave you in the mud now, but providing you go on one of the hammerheads you will sit flat.
Access wasn't a problem on springs. The sill is currently at 2m on the gauge and HW was just over 7m at the weekend so almost any vessel could still have got in or out.

That is extremely bad news. I am not putting my wing keel in mud for any money, whether it might sit flat or not. I was hoping at least the hammerheads were still floating so we could sail over for the watchet festival. I guess not.

It really is shameful. I'm going to do a bit of correction and cross out the 'marina' symbol on my charts!

We were there at the weekend, by car, at low water the whole "marina" was soft mud, hardly any water anywhere.
Shame, as we used to love to visit by boat.
I really hope they can sort out the gate and, more importantly, the mud so we can visit again by boat.
