I've just spent a couple of days cleaning my Autoprop and my thoughts are turning to the propshaft. I have put Propshield on the prop with reasonable success but not on the shaft. I've tried Cruiser AF which was quickly eroded so last year I tried Trilux. That didn't work. The boat came out with a heavy hairy growth on the shaft. In fact, it was worse than on the Cruiser AF the year before. This year, I'm thinking of applying Propshield to the shaft as well.
Has anyone any other suggestions that I could try?

Autoprop

Hi Miker

I too have an autoprop and i am into my second season with it. This time last year I applied Propshield but i used method 2 which involved diluting with white spirit. The result was not overly impressive. So the question is :- if you use the direct application (method) do you use heat?
I was concerned about using heat because of the seals

I appreciate that is not answering your question

I spoke to Bruntons and they advised me not to use AF on the prop, and recomended lanolin based products instead.

I applied the Propshield by placing it inside a plastic cup immersed in boiling water to melt the Propshield. I then painted the Propshield over the prop using a cheap paintbrush. I don't fancy using the heated prop method as I am afraid of scorching the underside of the boat. This year I'm thinking of using an empty can can instead of a plastic cup and, perhaps, heating the can with a blowtorch. The problem with using boiling water is that it cools too quickly.

Haven't yet found any better Autoprop fouling prevention than first polishing and then lots of use, in the 20-odd years I've had mine.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm happy with Propshield on a clean Autoprop and will try it also on the shaft in the asence of any better suggestions. AF certainly was no use on the shaft.
