.Bought 2 x5 litre tins of Seaforce 30 antifoul a year ago.Only used one tin and saved other for this year . On opening, it had solidified. In over 30 tears of using Joton have never had this problem before. Just used to add No 7 thinners and it was as good as new.Rang Joton and was told it only has a 6 month shelf life!!!

A few years back I was in the local chandlery, by the door were a couple of 5l. tins of Shogun for £45 each, obviously old stock but since I had regularly used up left over AF paint thought it was worth a punt. We opened a tin and it was solid on the bottom with the solvent on top, set the wife to work with a variety of agitating devices while I got on with something important, by afternoon she had it liquid so I rolled it on. When it dried the hull was covered in little coppery lumps. I rang the sellers and they referred me to the importer. No problem, they agreed to send me 10 litres of replacement but by then crane day had passed and she was afloat. When the carrier turned in his van up his eyes were streaming and he was having trouble breathing, two of the 2.5l. cans were leaking and the flimsy cardboard box was blue. I took the stuff and endorsed his docket as 'damaged'. The importer contacted me and promised to send four more tins but was very concerned if I could find a 'safe' way to dispose of the first consignment. I explained to her that I would have absolutely no trouble with that, I knew just the place.
I did not need to buy AF for about five years and it was still good at the end, the original discounted tins must have been a lot older than 'last years stock'.

Did you not read the instructions?

6 months shelf life is news to me and I buy a fair bit of Seaforce30 every year, usually decant it from 20L drums and sell it on but this year they had some 5L tins. After a year or so, needs 10 mins stirring with elec drill and paint stirrer and maybe a drop of Xylene based thinner.

On opening the tin it was set like soft rubber.I tried stirring but it was impossible.I.ve had previous Seaforce 30 and with a quick stir its been OK.On the tin its says Best before and it says 6 months ahead.
They have obviously altered the composition. As Jotun factory is in my home town I rang and they said it has only got a 6 month shelf life now.

Which Seaforce do you have? the stuff I get from Jotun Iberia (Made in Spain) has been Seafore 30M for the last 2 years. According to them, the M replaced the older version and was told a few weeks ago that another mix is coming most likely this year.
