There is no compulsion to carry out their recommendations - it just means that if you have to put in a claim to do with the issue in hand, it will be rejected. If you are that sure of yourself, the risk is on you. It will not invalidate the overall insurance.

My experience and attitude to surveyors is the opposite to yours. Perhaps I have just been lucky when choosing one.

No, i think your experience is the norm - certainly the same as mine. Engaging a surveyor is a 2 way process, and starting from an expectation that you are going to get ripped off is perhaps not a good idea!

Expectations like that are often based on personal experience and well founded. Small craft surveyors are tradesmen like any others, with spurious qualifications and jargon, and after all, we are actually talking about a bit of plumbing.
Pleased to see that you now intend following my advice on your plumbing.

My experience of surveyors in both my professional and personal life is well founded the very opposite of yours so my expectations are that any that I engage will be professional and will deal with them in a professional manner. I wonder why my experience is so different from yours?
