Hi all I used the wrong Mask for sanding anti foul And I have been ill for over a month tight chest short of breath has anyone ever had similar problems? If so Any treatment ?
thanks

In light of the times are you sure it's AF?

If so see a GP and possibly get on a course of respiratory physiotherapy

If possible download the safety info leaflet from the anti-foul manufacturer so that the GP knows what chemicals they are dealing with.

You were surely not dry sanding anti-fouling, were you?

So in the middle of a pandemic the NHS have to deal with a self-inflicted illness. Unbelievable.

I did the same when sanding GRP, I should have bought a good quality 3m dust mask for the job intended, Instead i used a cheapy as i didnt feel the need to spend a fortune on a dust mask for one job.

Big mistake my chest felt like an elephant was sitting on me for a fortnight and coughing up sparkling white phlegm. Bogies where same colour.

I had to borrow my partners inhaler and breathing in steam from a pot with a towel over my head to loosen it up and it eventually went away on its own,

If you are of senior age and already have a bad chest i would definitely see your GP as a chest infection ontop of the crap in your lings could lead to something alot worse.

Ive now learned from my mistakes and a new shiny 3m mask with 2 filters is sitting in my toolbox for the next time.

Definitely see your GP then as i may stand corrected but im sure dust from GRP and such is similar to asbestos and can stay buried in your lungs for a long time causing infections, pneumonia etc, i dont think it as dangerous as asbestos but im sure it can screw up your lungs just the same.

It is pretty nasty stuff i would like to think after 5 weeks you should have has some improvement.

Defo see your GP!
