Antares 760 - early days

A little update on my Nanni 4.390 low revs/low power issue.
Today I fitted a glass bowl pre filter right after the tank outlet to check fuel quality going onto the system. Nothing dodgy going on as all looks clean green diesel.
I also fitted a backup temperature gauge to confirm my running temperature having fitted the correct 71c thermostat - not the incorrect one supplied by the Nanni experts. The gauge coincides with the original.
I then got her up to 60c and pushed throttle up to 3600 and it would have gone higher but I bottled it. It confirms in neutral she will rev over well over 3200rpm which is the max I get when under load (should go to 4000+ in neutral) .
I have also bought a pressure/vacuum gauge to check the vacuum pressures. There is a vacuum pipe off the manifold which goes to a "valve" and then into the pump. What reading should I get if I test this pipe? What if this "valve" is faulty would it affect the power?

Can’t answer your questions re turbo but I still think that at 3200rpm, providing prop and gearbox are standard fit, you should be seeing 16+ knots. Would be interesting to hear from someone with the Nanni what speed they get at those rpm.

I have seen posts from others who get around 18kts+ at 3200 which would be my target. Engine seems to run OK ie. no rattles or bangs so it's not missing and is standard factory fit AFAIK. There is no air restriction as there is just a piece of fabric velcro'd round the intake which has large holes in it so nothing stopping air getting in. I have already checked crankcase pressure etc. and there seems to be none.
There is a little pipe to the wastegate actuator which should give me a boost pressure I think but it is very tight to get this off. Failing that I have to consider the pump is failing which will be expensive......

Welcome to the club :) Great boats for a variety of uses, easy to handle solo and economical as you've found.

I have the VP TAMD41 engine in my 760 (2005), based on a couple of straight trips Guernsey / Jersey I always banked on about 20litres an hour at 16knts which I thought was perfectly reasonable.
Not got a fuel meter so just based on leaving with a full tank then topping back up on arrival vs the distance on the chart (my actual distance travelled may differ I guess).
Either way I don't find I have to fill up very often despite a lot of time spent out on the sea.

Enjoy the new purchase.
Thnx for the excellent info.i have been a yacht owner the past 50 yrs .but whope to aquire a 760 iby nxt year heqlth onceissues are overcomovercome

Hi,
Just bought 2005 Antares 760 - main task at the moment is to learn how to get in and out of berth. Handles very differently from sailing boats I have had for previous 35 years !
Up to now have always used an all chain anchor rode - Antares has chain/rope. The windlass has a drum for the chain and another for rope. When raising / lowering anchor how do I deal with this ?
Apologies if this is a stupid question !

You should find that the chain gypsy will also pull the rope. 8mm chain, the gypsy handles 14mm and 16mm 3 strand.

Yes, different from a sailboat with a keel but you will eventually get used to the difference or, better still, sign up to an "RYA Powerboat Level 2" course and ensure the school has several different boat types to train on and in particular one of the Antares 760 configuration of single shaft drive.

As for anchor rode, I have chain and rope but increased my chain to 30m which in the vast majority of cases, for the type of cruising I do, that is enough. For the odd few times I need more, after letting out the 30m, I go to the foredeck and let the rope out by hand. On weighing anchor I either pull in the rope by hand or work it on the drum until can transfer the chain to the gypsy.
