Antal winches

Does anyone recommend Antal winches? I’m considering a pair of XT16’s, which are significantly cheaper than Lewmar EVO equivalent for cruising.

Make sure that their '16' means the same as everyone else's. I had some years ago but found that they were the equivalent of other 14s when the data was compared. Otherwise they were ok.

I installed two Antal self tailing 16s last year... All good so far

I was considering one for when I take my halyards back and would have bought one (with a free winch handle) if I had not licked in on an ex display Lewmar Evo for only a few pounds more. Had a look at the Antal today at the show and it looked OK.

Installed a set of stainless ones many years ago. So far as I know they are still in use. Seemed well engineered to me.

Had mine for 18 years no problems. Just make sure you use the correct size halyard/sheet (not too large a dia.), or the top circular spring will be pushed up and off by the self-tailer ? .
