Jan 2004 page 74 answers to the November quiz. Question 2: "You have joined a yacht club where most members' yachts wear a blue ensign. Is full membership enough to entitle you to fly one also?" Answer: You must first ask the secretary for an Admiralty warrant.

WRONG. The Admiralty warrant system for yachts was dropped many years ago, and very few yachts still have one. The Admiralty warrant is now issued to the club, and individual members have to apply for a renewable PERMIT from the club.

There's a lot of bumf about minimum yacht size, whether or not the owner is aboard, flying the club burgee etc but that apparently wasn't relevant.

A small point perhaps, but these quizzes often hinge on pedantic precision. The correct answer has been given several times on Scuttlebutt ... as I've said before, YM 'experts' should check their facts here before pontificating!

These fellows that don\'t know their fundament...

...from their elbow.

I say, old boy, if you have to ask elementary questions such as these, you are obviously a) a bounder, b) a cad, and c) unfit to set foot on a yacht, much less to set orff to sea.

Be a good chap and join the caravan club, why don't you?
